Early termination fee calculation

Mum (aged 84) has an 18-month BB and landline contract with PN from 23/09/25, currently paying £44.49 per month.

She has just received her 30 day email for auto-move to EE (even though her contract doesn't expire for 10 months).

She is not keen to move to EE and is interested in a move elsewhere to retain the VOIP and BB together. However, I'm conscious there will be an early termination fee.

Looking at this page, can anyone sense check whether my figure of £300 early termination fee might be in the right ballpark?

I have guessed at an ad hoc reduction (wholesale costs) of £10 but no idea whether that is enough to be deducted.

I also assume that PN won't deduct the 2 months after end of January 2027 from the outstanding duration of the contract, because she could serve out the whole of the rest of the contract with EE as an alternative.

I realise that she won't get a detailed figure without contacting PN, but she has already got herself in a tizzy about this (despite my best endeavours). She won't want to call them up (some cognitive confusion).

She really doesn't want to go with EE, having read various reports and reviews about issues with their hardware and support. But this cost might force her down that line (and I'm not close enough to assist on the ground and am not registered with PN as an extra contact on her account).

Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Early termination fee calculation

@Yorkie6

Only PN staff can give a figure for ETC's but from what you've said £300 isn't out of hte ball park though they could be higher.

Your mother or a designated person needs to phone in.

Re: Early termination fee calculation

Here's my back-of-the-envelope estimate.

The early termination fee applies only to the broadband cost.  The phone plan is a rolling 30-day contract you can cancel any time.

From £40.49 I estimate that the broadband part of the monthly fee is £30.49 by deducting £14 for the phone plan. If the phone plan is more or less than this amount then adjust accordingly. Then, using the formula you referred to and a guesstimated wholesale cost of £13 I calculate the ETF to be £147. Using your figure for wholesale cost of £10 the ETF comes out as £183.
