Digital Switchover - what if I don't want to stay with PlusNet/EE?

I've received an email telling me I have a decision to make before the big digital switchover at the start of 2027. I've done some research and it may be that I will move elsewhere for a better deal. Has anyone done this? Do you have to tell PlustNet what you're planning to do or do you simply contact the potential new provider? I don't want a 'messy' process but I need to save the pennies these days. Thank you for any advice.

You have 3 decisions to make.
First - do you want to keep a VOIP landline?
If the answer is Yes, then would you prefer an ISP who offers both - perhaps the easiest way.
Or would to be happy to stay with PN and use a VOIP provider. More work to start with but potentially cheaper.
How long do you have left on your current contract?

To answer your question re moving to a new provider you just contact them and they will arrange the switch.
Do not engage Plusnet in this process as it can , and has in the past, resulted in a loss of service for a period of time.

If you move your current phone and broadband to EE then your current contract will continue until the end at the current price.
If you move to any other ISP mid contract you will be hit with cancellation charges.

My contract is up Feb 2027 but as the switchover is Jan 2027, they're obviously letting me know now.
I still feel like I need a landline as we live rurally and the reception for mobiles is not great.
Apologies, I'm not understanding your acronyms? I just want to be with someone who is going to offer me the same service (appreciate it will be a digital home phone line and not analogue) but cheaper, if at all possible?

Thank you. I wasn't sure if I had to let them know. I would be more than happy to talk directly with someone new.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Seems unfair to feel trapped into a contract like that but I can see why they would do that. I wonder if any of the other providers offer like a switching credit to help cover the cancellation fees from an old provider? I've been with PlusNet now for many years but I'm afraid when money is tight, I feel compelled to look for any cheaper deals.

(my bold)
As long as your mobile phone and service provider are compliant, WiFi Calling would solve that problem.

Your contract will continue as is, at the same price as you are paying now until February 2027, so effectively in terms of the service, it will not change from that to which you have agreed. The difference is that the service will change supplier from Plusnet to EE in the coming few weeks (not January 2027) and you will be supplied with a new router into which you plug your phone. Come February 2027, when your contract expires, you are free to shop around.

Thank you for that. It probably makes sense for me to stay put with EE (after PlusNet port me across) and then shop around in Feb 27. I'm hoping I can still retain my landline number as I've got it recorded in a number of places.

If you received the same email as I did, then it says that you will keep the same phone number. Or do you mean after Feb 27?

I was thinking of after Feb 2027, when I am allowed to jump ship to hopefully a cheaper provider. I don't want to be held to ransom to keep my number but it would certainly make life easier for me if I could keep it.

It is an OFCOM requirement that you are allowed to keep your phone number if changing provider.
