STAC code and new provider

Hi, bit of a weird problem here.

I'm leaving Plusnet for another provider, and I've requested and received my STAC code from Plusnet. I do not want my old phone number, and I am wanting to deactivate it, hence the STAC code. However, my new provider has terrible customer service, and I've been able to parse that one of the following two things is true:

1) My new provider does not accept STAC codes. (?)

2) They are misunderstanding my request.

I've been through their customer service four times and still not gotten a solid answer. One of them even told me to text STAC to 75075, but I'm fairly sure that all that does is provide me a STAC code for my new number. What can I do in this situation? I need to at least leave the Plusnet contract, but I would very much like to deactivate the number.

Thanks.

Re: STAC code and new provider

That doesn't sound right at all.  I'd guess you could phone Plusnet and cancel that way.

I moved 2 accounts from Plusnet to another company just over a month ago.  One I used a PAC code and the other a STAC code.  All looks to have gone very smoothly, with me entering the relevant code via the new suppliers website.  Instantly I got messages for both being accepted and then the following day saying each had been completed, and the Plusnet side showing something different, which presumably means they know I've now left.  I'm just waiting on final bills on them both to make sure everything is right, but I'm pretty confident it is.

That sounds to be far from your experience though, but I wanted to include it for you to see how quick and simple it could/should be.

At least with it being a STAC I think you should be able to "fix" it via Plusnet, though you may want to think about if it is a typical experience of your new provider and if you want to risk your mobile life with them long term.  You'll pretty much always hear of complaints and praise for any company, and things do go wrong at times, so there is some level of risk in any decision you make when choosing who to use!  Hope you manage to get sorted quickly.

Re: STAC code and new provider

I have always been able to submit a PAC or STAC when signing up to a new provider. It's always been under move your number to us but with the option of providing a STAC too.

If that outfit are so bad before starting a service with them, I would give them a wide berth and go elsewhere.
