Mobile Broadband

Do Plusnet do a mobile broadband package?

Currently on FTTP with Vodafone and looking for a replacement due to poor speeds.

What are you trying to achieve ?

Are you looking for a data plan to use on a portable computing device, such as a laptop, tablet, or phone - each with the possibility of creating a WiFi hotspot.

Or are you looking for wireless alternatives to provide broadband for your home ?

I'm asking because "mobile broadband" and "wireless broadband" are different things, depending on what you're trying to do.

Re: Mobile Broadband

@Anonymous Because of poor speeds on Vodafone FTTP the Op wants to switch to a mobile broadband service.😫

Re: Mobile Broadband

Yes I realise that, my point was whether @cbcadmin  really meant "mobile broadband" (because perhaps that is all they think exists), when there are perfectly good "wireless broadband" providers that DON'T use the mobile 3G/4G/5G networks to provide fixed wireless broadband.

Re: Mobile Broadband

Given that @cbcadmin 's signature says they are in Sheerness Kent

These are the wireless broadband providers with coverage in Kent -

It would be worth @cbcadmin  going to each provider's website and checking the wireless coverage at their home postcode.

Re: Mobile Broadband

I am simply looking for a basic broadband service as I had with Plusnet a couple of years ago. I don't use the phone so just need a copper, fibre or mobile sim based connection.

Re: Mobile Broadband

I've only ever used wired (ADSL and now fibre), but as I don't use the phone and Virgin don't cover Sheerness I thought I would try wireless. 5G contracts seem to be offered with a router, but I have no experience of any form of mobile broadband, so I have been asking on forums.

Re: Mobile Broadband

B4rk just gave a not found error when I entered postcode but Bitsteme looks promising. Have sent them a message. Thanks again.

Re: Mobile Broadband

The others just seem to hide the information and/or provide links that don't work. Looks like Bitstreme might be the answer: simple and informative website that just works! Smiley

@jab1 you referred me here from my OSADSL post, but I can't find your message. Sad

While you are in the process of exploring every possibility,  you might as well check which mobile network gives you the very best INDOOR mobile DATA coverage at your address, although from what I can see that appears to be 4G only - as 5G doesn't appear to have reached Sheerness yet.

If you visit the Ofcom : Mobile broadband coverage checker

  1. Enter your postcode, and hit the <Set postcode> button
  2. Then select your exact address from the dropdown "Select your address" list
  3. Click on the <View map of available services> button,  which then shows a coverage map at your address.
  4. Now click on the <Indoor> button - to ensure you are seeing predicted indoor coverage
  5. Click on <Data> button (so that you are not viewing voice coverage which includes 2G)
  6. Then in turn, click on each of the four network providers (Vodafone, O2, EE, Three), and see which gives you the best signal for your address and immediate surrounding area.
  7. For each network, check whether the <5G Data> button becomes active, in case you can get 5G at your address - although that might be irrelevant now that you've paid for a "ZTE MF286D" 4G router..

Given that 'Three' that you've mentioned seems to have slightly less coverage than the other networks in Sheerness,  you might as well get trial SIMs from 'O2' and 'Vodafone' (that both have better coverage) to see whether they give a better signal strength when used in your eBay "ZTE MF286D"  4G router.

Re: Mobile Broadband

Thanks.

I am aware 3 don’t have 5G in Sheerness yet, but understand 4G should give me reasonable speeds and true unlimited data.
