Thanks for the suggestions (pfsense and openwrt)
Its home edition on XG105 rev 3 hardware so could run pretty much anything. Its just I have too many things running from the Sophos ecosystem to move away (2 SD-RED hardware tunnels, 3 WIFI AP, MTA inside XG).
And currently the box as-is does 900mbps on about 30%CPU so performance is not currently the bottleneck!
Whilst this IPv6 issue is frustrating, I will put something in-between to get it working rather than have to change everything else.
Fortunately I do have kit lying around!

The XG105 does support 6in4 tunnels, so you could configure a (free) Hurricane Electric Tunnelbroker account, and get IPv6 networking without needing to find hardware workarounds for DHCPv6 over PPPoE, and keep your existing Sophos ecosystem.
I ran an Hurricane Electric IPv6 tunnel for about 14 years (on pfSense), and the tunnel barely added any measurable latency and minimal speed loss compared to native IPv4 on a 76/19Mbps FTTC connection.
I appreciate that using a 6in4 tunnel doesn't help with contributing to the Plusnet trial, but is an effective way of getting IPv6.

I ran a HE tunnel for many years too, however it was very erratic with regards to latency, some days it was better than ISP, others it was a bottleneck.
Reason I stopped using HE was because it was flagged as a US geolocation, and it kept breaking Netflix and iPlayer!

Yes, I had a similar problem, but my tunnel identified as being an American ISP but always geolocated to be in London.
Unfortunately Netflix could detect that the IPv6 was via a proxy, tunnel, or VPN, so I setup a pfSense firewall rule to restrict Netflix traffic to only have IPv4 connectivity.
I never saw and latency issues with the tunnel, but I am within about 30 miles of the Hurricane Electric London end-point, which I believe are in the same building complex as my nearest Plusnet termination point.

I seem to be up and running via an opnsense (26.7.1) router.
I had some trouble with the LAN configuration type. I started with "identify association" but ended up switching to the legacy "track interface" method instead.
Let's see how things behave over the next few days...

Now up and running with the Mikrotik box in front of my main router and IPv6 seems to be is working on all 4 network segments!

Only thing I have noticed which is not a specific Plusnet problem at all. It's with IPV6 on Android. I have a Pixel 10 Pro XL running GrapheneOS. Basically on quite a regular basis, I will go to https://test-ipv6.com/ to check IPV6 is still running ok. This works fine on my Mac Air, but on Android very often throughout the day it will state there is no IPV6. A quick toggle of airplane mode or wifi off/off fixes it immediately. I was researching this yesterday and there have been multiple Google tracker reports going back years on this and it still hasn't been fixed. Been reported against many different OEMs. Often seems to happen when the screen goes off, power managment kicks in and the IPV6 lease is lost (falling back to IPV4). This is why dual stack is still essential - when one of the biggest companies on the planet has a bug outstanding for many years and still hasn't fixed it yet lol. But to confirm no issues on any of my hardware apart from my phone. I've also noticed this same behavour on my daughters Xiaomi Android phone as well.

So my weekend update - IPv6 all working fine with Plusnet Hub Two. Tried putting Google WiFi behind Hub Two, but it seems like that doesn't work, possibly because Hub Two doesn't delegate via DHCPv6-PD. Google WiFi is running in NAT mode so it can be a mesh network, I'd guess if it was in bridged mode it would probably work as-is.
Anyway, in principle IPv6 is working, those issues are mine to solve ![]()

Its a psuedo-static IPv6, so you could manually assign the prefixes inside your google wifi?

Out of curiosity - does the hub2 honour RA's from other devices on the LAN?
I don't think it supports setting manual routes for IP6 - it certainly didn't for IP4.
I think you'd need one or the other to work if you went the route of statically assigning prefixes and didn't try to rely on NAT6 (if the Google WiFi device was doing that).
