Public release

Any idea when the public release will be?
As the beta testers have to have a static IP what happens to the folk that don’t have one?
Will you do a none static IP address ipv6 trial?

Regards
Paul

Re: Public release

@poweredbyveg  I presume by Public release you mean available to all Plusnet customers, did you not see my reply to your  similar question at the end of this thread?

https://community.plus.net/t5/Everything-else/Static-IP-addresses-no-longer-available/m-p/2007762#M3...

The current trial is specifically for users who already have static IP addresses on the 'high touch network'.

The folk that don't have a static address are not on that network and will not need to have one.

Only Plusnet will know when they are able to introduce IPv6 on the dynamic address network and a limited trial will probably be announced at some point.

Re: Public release

Apologies for delayed reply on this.

We have 2 separate networks, one we refer to as low touch which is for dynamic IPs and high touch which is mostly static IP addresses and a few other reasons. I'd originally expected that low touch was going to be ready to trial IPv6 on first but we've had a few delays, it isn't far off but there's still work to do. Hopefully I'll have an update in a few weeks time.

Re: Public release

Hi Dave, do you have any news you can share now for IPv6 trial on the low touch network?
I’d certainly be keen to join a trial or for general availability.
Thank you, Stuart

Re: Public release

@Stuper  It's unlikely that any new announcement about IPV6 will happen in the near future as at the moment Plusnet staff are somewhat overwhelmed by problems with the email service and its ongoing migration to Greenby.

Re: Public release

Hi Stuart,

My test line in Ipswich is up and running on low touch on IPv6 and it's all fully working. I'm hoping to get my home line and 1 or 2 of our Sheffield office test lines on IPv6 in the next few weeks. Many many more things after that to do before we can expand but will update when we can.

Re: Public release

Just joined, but instead of 24 months, signed up for 12 months. If ipv6 isn't launched in that time, then I'd be off as can't wait out 2 years for something that should have already been done. About time Ofcom gave a ruling on this to all ISP's, as ipv6 been around a long time now.

Hopefully this will get done within my 12 months, but at least I wont be in it for 24 months if not....

Re: Public release

I'm in similar situation with current contract, although I've been with PlusNet for 16 years. When my renewal came up in June this year I opted for a 12 month contract to de-risk if IPv6 didn't happen. There seems confidence around IPv6 delivery, but I can't wait much longer and will soon be setting up a new provider ahead of June. I've been very pleased with PlusNET, and still do recommend them to people.

Re: Public release

In the real world, what does the absence of IPv6 actually stop you doing?

What services HAVE gone IPv6 only?  What services have declared a real intent to go IPv6 only immediately?  Sure there's fears spreading around that some might, but what everyday service has?

Yes, the internet is littered with may's, might's and if's ... but it is (in a domestic setting) mostly FUD.

Re: Public release

In my case I work in telecoms industry and many things I need are IPv6 only. I can workaround this if needing to access systems from home, but it’s not ideal. I accept this isn’t typical domestic use. For normal domestic use the benefits are marginal. However, if people feel they need / want something and it’s available in market then why not? Certainly my work relies on people wanting the new thing.

Re: Public release

That’s the most objective reason I’ve seen articulated, though that falls into the grey area of WFH on a budget residential service.  At the moment it’s still coming.  I’ve fallen off the trial for the moment due to something I poked on my account elsewhere.  TBH I cannot operationally discern any issue … beyond the router’s DHCP still issues a IPv6 DNS resolver … which nslookup insists on using … which is not contactable.

Re: Public release

@Townman apologies, I'll be too late to add you back before Christmas as I'm not going to meet the deadline for the change freeze. As I'll be adding one back in it's not much more effort to add a few more.

@Stuper @pepperlake happy to add you both. @RealAleMadrid did you want to join?

As a Christmas bonus I'll make 5 additional slots available plus the 3 of you if you want in, so first posters before 9am Monday will be selected and I'll aim to add you around 6th/7th January. Note, you'll get static IPv6 and IPv4 (if you don't currently have static IPv4 I can make exceptions this once).

Re: Public release

Hi Dave,

Bonus, extra slots!

Would you please add me to the trial? I have static IPv4. What info do you need?.

Thanks.

Re: Public release

@dave  Thanks for your kind offer, I am interested in trying IPV6 but it isn't essential and I will wait until you roll it out on the low touch network and reconsider then. Thanks anyway.
