Re: IPv6 when?

The IPv4 address on the test account is a static address but will be different to the one on your normal account.

Native IPv6 and a static IPv4 address? Dave, you're spoiling us... Long live the trial!  Wink

Re: IPv6 when?

I am happy to join trial.
Can you give me a list of compatible modems so I can go shopping? Using an old speedtouch at the moment.

Re: IPv6 when?

See http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96350.0.html.
At present the list is limited to Cisco 837 & Billion 7800N.
I think the Thomson 585 v8 will work once a firmware update is released.

Re: IPv6 when?

Since IPv6 does not include NAT, each IPv6 host will now be directly addressable by every other IPv6 host each IPv6 host will need its own strong firewall won't it?

Re: IPv6 when?

No, repeat after me ... "NAT is not a firewall"
You can still firewall at the gateway, just apply a policy to allow outbound traffic and drop inbound traffic and your security will be the same as sitting behind a NAT gateway on IPv4.
Going beyond that is a bit OT for this thread, but some people think you should also drop outbound traffic apart from that which you want to allow (since so much malware now "phones home" for instructions). Also, as well as running a good firewall at the gateway, it is good practice to run one on each host as well.

Changing tack a bit, World IPv6 Day has been and gone - few noticed, the world didn't end, the internet didn't implode Smiley Any news on timescales for the trial yet ?

Re: IPv6 when?

Shouldn't you allow inbound traffic for established connections as well?  Grin

Re: IPv6 when?

Well if it's a stateful firewall then that is the default.

Re: IPv6 when?

Is there an update from PlusNet on the overall IPv6 roadmap? What about web hosting, email DNS etc as well as access.
