First off, Nigel Whitfield did a piece in The Register. While not that interesting to most of us, but there are some interesting comments. Amongst those is a link to IPv6 CPE surveys. It's a depressingly short list

Quote from: Epyon So i put my DG384G into bridge mode and use PPPOE and it will work?
If it has a mode where your computer does the PPP then I'd expect it to work.

Quote from: A How do the Wireless protocols work with IPV6?
I assume you mean 802.11[abgn] ? These are all protocol agnostic - they just bridge packets between wireless and wired networks and so if you have a wireless access point on your network then it should "just work".
For routers with integral wireless, then I'd expect any of them to be OK if they natively support IPv6. If a router doesn't support IPv6, then it's possible the wireless might not work since the wireless is usually a separate interface to the routing engine - but this is normally bridged in software to the wired network, so I'd expect ones not working to be rare. But of course, if your router doesn't do IPv6 then you might be looking at an upgrade anyway either for the trial or when it gets rolled out on general release.

One question however will the /64 (I assume we're not going to get a /48) we get in the trial be the one we have for life?

Quote from: markg140 I'm a network engineer for a multi service providing company (intechnology if anyone's interested)
we still haven't even started discussing the move to IPv6 bit atrocious really.
I was at a RIPE IPv6 event recently and from those in attendence is really was surprising how typical that position was/is. Many of the engineers could see trouble ahead for their own networks yet were still struggling to get their concerns listened to by management, primarily because they [the managers] continued to maintain the view that it was tomorrow's problem. Of course, they can only be correct for so long and let's hope that recognise that before it's too late.

Does seam cynical, most of our network consultants are all crying out for at least discussion and planning at least.
Fact is it HAS to be happen during this and next year.

I imagine network professionals all around the world are thinking/talking/wanting IPv6 ... while managers are trying to pretend it (and the associated costs) aren't going to happen. I reckon there are also a lot of people doing their own private projects without management knowledge so they can at least have some experience even if they can't do anything to the live network.
At my work, I'm thinking about it, and I've mentioned it a few times to various managers, but it's not even reached discussion stage. As for our connectivity supplier, one of the well known worldwide names, and I think their response has now changed from "what's IP6 ?" to "I think I've heard of that" !
I'm also trying to think how on earth to monitor traffic on IPv6 - on IPv4 we have few enough addresses to log traffic by address for the whole public, that's not going to work with 2^72 addresses

Talk has been of getting a /56 - see page 3 of this thread.
