IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

Anyone else on the trial having connectivity issues over IPv6?

I am successfully getting an IAPD prefix, IPv6 DNS server details and the necessary link local address for the router however my LAN devices cannot get beyond the router:

$ traceroute6 www.google.co.uk
traceroute to www.google.co.uk (2a00:1450:4009:808::2003) from 2a02:16c8:8700:7100::20, 30 hops max, 24 byte packets
 1  2a02:16c8:8700:7100:3291:8fff:fe13:c30a (2a02:16c8:8700:7100:3291:8fff:fe13:c30a)  1.051 ms  0.891 ms  0.92 ms
 2  2a02:16c8:0:1::3:10 (2a02:16c8:0:1::3:10)  11.082 ms !N  18.266 ms !N  15.697 ms !N

This started happening yesterday and has persisted through today. It is causing havoc with some devices (Android devices in particular) in the house as they think they IPv6 transport but don't yet unfortunately are not gracefully falling back to IPv4.

No problems that I know of.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

Are you still on the old network, if so which gateway are you on?

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

Thanks for that. I'm on ptw-bng01 (new, old?)

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

I think that ptw-bng01 is the old network, I am on ptw-ag04.

I seem to remember that the bng gateways were never properly set up for use with IPv6.

I would try and move onto a "non-bng" gateway (this may take quite a few attempts) and see if it helps.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

Ah okay; will give that a go.

I've been cycling the PPP session on the router but to no avail. Do you know if this is sufficient or do I need to be cycling the modem?

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

Just the router, I found it took quite a few attempts before I hit a non bng gateway. Some of the bng gateways don't work at all, others give a IPv6 address that is not your usual one.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

I'll keep trying!

Incidentally, I don't really have a 'usual' address - my prefix tends to change every week or so.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

I've tried around 30 PPP cycles now but can't seem to get on anything other than ptw-bng01 or pcl-bng01 - will try again tomorrow I think!

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

Over the past few months I've been running automated speed tests every 30mins and forgot that I was also logging which gateway I was connected through each time. Looking back through the logs I can see that I've always been connected through either ptw-bng01 or pcl-bng01 and so I don't think that's my issue given no problems previously.

I will re-enable IPv6 when I've got a moment to see if the issue is still present.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

FWIW, I also seem to always get ptw-bng01 (London docklands) or pcl-bng01 (London City) my exchange is Widthdean in Brighton on the South Coast.

I'm not getting any ipv6 connectivity from either currently.

Thanks for that. I was going to re-enable IPv6 to see if the problem had 'gone away' but it sounds like I'm going to be disappointed.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

My connection dropped about just over two weeks ago, upon reconnection I was on a bng gateway, no IPv6.

It only took about 5 gateway hops before I landed on pcl-ag03 which works with IPv6, it has taken a lot more than 5 tries to connect to a non-bng gateway in the past.

Re: IPv6 Connectivity Issues?

I've restarted the pppoe connection about 120 times now, and have only ever got pcl-bng01 or ptw-bng01 (roughly 50:50 split).  No IPv6 connectivity still.

Any tips?
