Re: landline phone wont recognize one other landline

Are you dialing the full number including area code (so the 01xxx part of the number)?

Re: landline phone wont recognize one other landline

Best guess is that it is a BT routing problem.

Raise it as a fault in your Plusnet account.

There are two possible scenareos I can see depending on who is the "rangeholder" (I'll explain this term below)

1) BT rangeholder - The forward to Virgin for that individual number is broken - Probably within BT's systems

2) Virgin/NTL/Telewest/someone else rangeholder - A problem within Virgin (most likely) or the "someone else" (less likely)

Whatever the problem is, Plusnet need to progress it within the numbering team.

Rangeholder - each block of UK numbers is managed by someone. If a BT number was "ported" to Virgin, BT forward the calls for that number to Virgin.

The first plausible hit I got searching for a lookup tool was https://nta.co.uk/number-rangeholder-lookup/

Try part of the number there.

Re: landline phone wont recognize one other landline

Check the range holder for all three numbers involved in this thread.

I suspect that the numbers have been moved around service providers and there are issues with call routing between networks.

Which network is the mobile service on?

Re: landline phone wont recognize one other landline

Hey @rehtnap2023

This does sound like a bit of a strange one. Is it only affecting one number?

To help narrow down this problem, can you try to dial the number with two prefixes from your home phone with '1280' and '1470', like this if you dial "1470 <number>" can you tell me what happens?

Re: landline phone wont recognize one other landline

I guess anything is worth a try on all the numbers have difficulty dialling one of the others.

1280 carrier preselect override forces calls to be routed over the BT network … that should be the norm on a Plusnet line.  The user did not mention using a carrier preselect service to reduce call costs, but it’s wise to eliminate that possibility.

1470 removes number with held setting on the single call - it ought not to make any difference to call routing, but wise to check.
