Lost my phone number during fibre upgrade - running out of time

Hi All,

My phone line was terminated 18 days (11th Aug) ago when I upgraded to SOGEA Plusnet full fibre from regular Broadband.
The setup was:

Broadband: Plusnet
Phone line: Barker Telecom (BT reseller)

When Plusnet processed my upgrade, they ceased the phone line. Now all three companies (BT, Barker Telecom, Plusnet) claim it's not their responsibility.
Attempted to port the number to Twilio but failed with "no service with losing provider" error. I supplied BT and Plusnet as the losing provider.
I have approximately 12 days left in what I believe is a 30-day recovery window.
Has anyone successfully recovered a number in a similar reseller situation.

Thanks! Ac

I think you need to specify Barker Telecom as the losing provider.

Yes, you'll see quite a few posts here where people have ported a number in this situation. Your problem seems to be Twilio, they don't seem to be able to port a quarantined number. They should be able to , its an Ofcom requirement.#

I would suggest trying porting it to A & A https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/ , they seem to be able to handle quarantined numbers successfully

edit: just seen @jab1 s post, that may be a possibility but I would guess that the rangeholder was probably BT anyway. Really there is no need to have to provide the losing provider details since the gainig provider can look it up from the actual number.

To be pedantic…

Upon switching to SOGEA BT Openreach cancel all other services on the line, not the ISP.

Your phone provider should have sent a “sorry your leaving” communication - did the do so.

As above, you need to specify your PHONE service provider, not your ISP.  Things can become a right muddle where phone and broadband providers are distinct parties.

Thanks for the detail in the edit, @MisterW . My poor brain is tired of all this extra detail, maybe I should retire? 😁

@twixy2k

I would endorse the suggestion you try port the number to A&A - they have a good reputuation and can handle ceased numbers plus aren't expensive.

Once you have the number secure you can consider your options.
