Landline dead

Knocked phone from table to floor. No dial tone. All cables plugged in, both ends. Plugged another phone into socket, and it also has no dial tone.

Phone rang for incoming call, but when I picked up the receiver could hear nothing, nor could my caller hear me.

Any ideas, anyone? Thanking you in advance.

Re: Landline dead

Sounds like you may have damaged the connections in your master socket. Did you pull the phone lead when you knocked the phone?

Re: Landline dead

@rosecrown  do you have any other phone extension sockets in your house to try the phone in ?

If you only have a "Master Socket", then you could try plugging the phone into the "TEST" socket (behind the Master Socket faceplate).

If the phone works in the "TEST" socket, then as @jab1  said, you might have damaged the faceplate (which is easy and cheap to replace)

Watch this video to see how to access your "TEST" socket - YouTube : How to Connect into the Master Test Socket

Re: Landline dead

Thank you very much, you kind person. I have followed your advice and have managed to isolate the cause of the problem. I can see no damage, but it seems that the little box hanging from the wall (ADSL filter, modem, whatever) is now not working for the telephone (though the other socket, into which I plug the cable for the computer, still works).

I will watch this video and seek to imbibe your wisdom.
