As I understand Plusnet are stopping providing home phone in October 2026 for my parents - they have Fibre to Premises but as I understand their phone still comes through copper i.e. not digital.
They have recently been moved to Greenby for their email which as I understand will be free for two years as Plusnet Broadband customers. Everything comes through this email so i would be a complete pain in the backside to move away from it!
They are getting calls form Plusnet asking about what option they want to take for their phone, the only option been given to them is EE..... but I am not clear if they are looking to move their complete service to EE or just the phone line. If they move their complete service to EE what happens to the Greenby email agreement?
As Plusnet has stopped mobile phone, then email and now landline is this a sign of BT wrapping them up? So do I take the plunge for my parents and just move them to a new provider for everything and go through the pain of changing their email address, I have already had conversations about this as internet provider emails are becoming a thing of the past.....
Fixed! Go to the fix.

@D2TheT You say your parents have 'Fibre to Premises'. Does this mean their connection is via an ONT, or via the phone master socket?

ONT for their broadband and separate master box for their phone.

I am sorry, but that is not possible - if they are on Full Fibre (FTTP), their copper circuit/connection is decommissioned, and will not work.

There’s nothing to say that you can’t have both FTTP and FTTC with phone.. You just have to pay for two services.

@Baldrick1 True, but I doubt the OP's parents are doing that - unless they are rich.

I don’t know but suspect that it’s not too different from having Full Fibre from Plusnet and phone from BT.

As I understand this is part of digital switch over - they do live in rural Wales!
When they installed the Fibre to the Premises, they were one of the first for a new type of roll out, fibre transported over posts, the copper telephone line was still in place for their telephone - it was the same for me with BT, fibre to the premises transported over post. I was changed digital phone about a year ago.
Anyway, no matter how it's connected Plusnet are withdrawing their Landland option and pointing them towards EE for a complete new package - so what happens with the Greenby deal if they take this up?
I suspect EE will not be offering email with their package much like BT no longer offers email.....

Quite possibly, but the OP didn't make clear that was the case.

Hi @D2TheT
If you can PM me your parents' full address or account username(s), I'll be happy to take a closer look.

The connection type does matter as it ditates the options available.
If your parents can login into their PN Members page it'll tell them what they are on. FTTP is known as Full Fibre.
Assuming they do have two accounts then they can either transfer the phone to another provider which would cause their PN Full Fibre to be cancelled as the new ISP would require both to provide and internet and phone service. The other option is to transfer the phone service to a VOIP provider and keep PN internet.
If their email has been migrated to Greenby then they don't lose it if they move.

In this case, they have a landline and FTTP on the same account as they were on the legacy trial.
If they want to remain with Plusnet, best bet is to change to a full fibre product from the Member Centre, let the phone cease, then transfer the number to VoIP within 30 days, if they’re happy with some downtime of the phone.
Transferring the number to VoIP before the phone is ceased may work unless the new provider places it as a One Touch Switch as that has potential to destroy the account.
But the move to EE may be easier and more seamless tbf.

Thanks Gandalf for putting people straight. I must admit it was quite frustrating trying to convince people that this is the installation that we have! Even though I was on the same legacy trial with BT and only in the last year or so moved to Digital Phone!
Also thanks for clarifying the situation with Greenby going forward. I'll update my mother when I speak to her next.
As they are old fashioned and had their landlane and number for over 30 years I suspect they don't want to give it up so moving to EE would be the simplest and easiest option for them.
Thanks again.

I was on the Trial from late 2017 with a BT landline. First thing I did after going live was to cancel the landline. I had totally forgotton about this.
If your parents are on the Trial then they are on a monthly contract. This gives options without too much of an Early Termination charge.
They can move to EE which will happen FOC of they organize it through PN. This is the easiest option. However, they could consider other ISP's like Zen Internet who do both. Zen supply a well regarded Router with a built in ATA and DECT Base station.
The other option is to stay with PN and port the number to a VOIP provider. Bit more work to start with but it separates the phone from the Internet.
