In that case, I suggest you call them tomorrow and ask them to explain your options. Don't commit to anything but take careful note of what they say, and let us know.

I did phone them this afternoon, my only choice seems to be migrate to EE to keep a home phone, or part fibre broadband only with Plusnet. Or look elsewhere I suppose. I have always been happy with Plusnet and I don't like change for change sake.

I thought that may be what they would say,and to be honest, for you, it is probably the best option to move to EE. If you stayed with PN for 'part fibre', you would need to arrange a phone service with another (VOIP) supplier.

I think I will have to because I don't know how to do anything else.
Thank you all for the helpful replies.

Thanks for the information.
The first question is do you want to keep a phone service?
If the answer is yes then you have two basic options. Stay with PN and arrange for a VOIP provider to take over your line (more work to start with but potentially cheaper in the longer run) or move to an ISP who offers both (easiest way to keep the phone).
You don't have to move to EE. As you're so close to the end of your contract you could go elsewhere. For example Zen Internet have a good reputation - https://www.zen.co.uk/ There are other providers.
Note that VOIP doesn't work during power custs without backup power.
Finally, you could have a look at www.openreach.co. uk to see what they say about Full Fibre.

@bmc I think the OP has made their choice, which is to move to EE, as they are reluctant and rather unwilling (understandably) to have to go through extra upheaval, unfortunately.

To give the OP the answer which I think they're looking for, you will get a new router through the post and you'll plug it in exactly where/how the Plusnet router is connected.
Apart from that, you'll then connect your phone to the green hole on the back of it.
That should be it.

I do want to keep a home phone of some sort because my o/h won't have anything to do with a mobile. I might see if anyone else can offer us both but I do need to keep it simple. I am more reassured now as there seems to be some hope.

@mike600 Thank you, that is reassuring. The router is in an upstairs room though so will I be able to have a phone downstairs too?

@nuttyknitter What phone is it you have at the moment (make and model)? A pair of DECT phones will work - you plug the base station into the router upstairs and the second one just needs to plugged into an electrical socket to charge the battery.

I don't use a Plusnet email address.
Just a follow up thought on this, nuttyknitter. Could you please - without giving here your actual email address - indicate who provides your email account. e.g. 'Gmail', 'Yahoo!'...
This is because, though you say you "don't use a Plusnet email address" it is not impossible you are using an old email address (e.g. Madasafish) that was taken over in the past by Plusnet, and this could have repercussions if you now leave Plusnet.

Yes, you can either buy some DECT phones (single/double/treble/quad packs) and the main base plugs in to the green port on the router.
EE have some plug in adaptors that you sync to the hub and position around the house and/or Digital Voice phones, but if you want to keep it simple - and it sounds like you do - the above will suffice.

@jab1 We have a Panasonic base phone which is plugged into the phone socket upstairs and a handset phone downstairs. We also have a BT phone plugged directly into a phone socket in the kitchen.

My latest 'middle of the night' worry is my computer connects to the internet using an ethernet lead. It doesn't have wifi.
I am sorry to keep asking more things, I feel such a dope.
