Damaged phone line

Hi

 

Just wondering who to contact to repair a damaged phone line? Plusnet, openreach or can I use independent company?

long story short, we are having some building work done, builder removed phone socket, then plaster came along and boarded over the cable! So I now need a new cable running from junction box on roof to the inside of the house

 

any advice appreciated

Just to add to @jab1 's post - you "should" go via Plusnet - but if you know a good independent chap it may be worth considering.

Not necessarily - Plusnet will pass to "their supplier" aka Openreach to do the work, and charge handsomely.

In most areas there are ads in the local press and freebie mags from people (often ex BT) who will do the job for probably less than half the price. It's a pretty basic task, and Openreach will be none the wiser, and unlikely to care anyway.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine
