Barring outgoing calls

I was wondering whether it is possible to bar outgoing calls on a Plusnet landline. I did see some information in another topic suggesting it was compatible with the BT version but there are a couple of things which I am not sure about.

Before doing anything else I dialled *#34# to check the status and it says the service is not available. Does that mean not possible or just not enabled? I don't want to attempt to enable it just yet as disabling it involves entering a PIN and nowhere is it explained where you get this PIN from so I might end up being unable to turn it off. Is the PIN something I may have needed for some other feature in the past but have forgotten about? If so, how can it be reset?

Many thanks to anyone who can offer any advice.

Welcome to the forum. 😃

It just means that it's not enabled. You may be able to enable it from the Phone Control Panel, but the system can be a bit flaky. If the following procedure doesn't work, either ring in or wait for a PN Help team member to pick up this thread.

Good luck!

  1. Just log into the and go to the Phone Control Panel
  2. Select the 'Call Features' tab
  3. Once there, choose 'Call Barring'. This will then prompt you to create a 4 digit PIN that will allow you to remove any barred numbers in the future
  4. Click submit, followed by 'add features'

Once that's set up, you can bar specific numbers by dialling the codes below into your phone.

  • *341# - This will bar almost all calls from your phone
  • *342# - Bar national and international calls and calls to mobiles
  • *343# - Bar international calls
  • *344# - Bar all operator calls
  • *345# - Bar any numbers with a * or # in them
  • *347# - Bar calls to premium rate numbers

Call barring will be added within the next 24 hours.

  • #34 'the relevant code i.e.1-7'*PIN# - Cancel call barring
  • *#34# - Check whether call barring is switched on

Re: Barring outgoing calls

Thanks very much for that speedy and comprehensive reply, @198kHz .

When I went to the Phone Control Panel it showed call barring already checked so I'm not sure why I got the not available message. If I did set it up in the past I may have forgotten the PIN so I have unchecked it to disable it and will re-enable it when that is possible after the 24 hour setup time to see if it prompts for a new PIN.

Thanks again for your help.

You're very welcome - hope the re-enabling works.  🤞
