When I first heard about the transfer of accounts amil , I was happy to let this take place and see how things went. There was no chance of full fibre here at that stage. Fibre became available here about 6 months ago, and I noted all the tales of woe about Greenby and discovered mythic-beasts.com. For a very small fee they provide everything in the way of mail and web space that PlusNet gave me 20 or more years ago, but done properly. The mail seems far more reliable than PN has been recently. Only downside is that you have do to spam filtering yourself after they have thrown away the worst.
I moved my email and webspace, then PN said they would move me to Greenby in a few weeks.
I'm moving the ISP and landline number to A&A and the total per month will be about 80% of what PN currently charges.
PN was good when I joined, but they seem incapable of doing anything properly now.

Completely agree. Plusnet have dropped their email service and their customers like a stone.
Apart from the initial notification last year telling us that they would be migrating emails I have had no communication from Plusnet or from Greenby and I’ve had persistent problems sending emails from my Plusnet address ever since. This migration should have been properly managed by Plusnet to ensure that their loyal customers were not adversely affected. Sorry to say that they have just washed their hands of the whole migration issue and consequently made a total *rse of it.
I am currently just working through my important contacts where I use my plusnet address to change them to my other email address, then it will be goodbye to Plusnet and no thanks to Greenby.

"Plusnet have dropped their email service and their customers like a stone."
Sorry, I can't really agree with that. After all, if that was truly the case then (like some other ISPs?) Plusnet would have simply said "Our Email service is closing on <date>, please make your own arrangements from that date."
"Apart from the initial notification last year telling us that they would be migrating emails I have had no communication from Plusnet or from Greenby"
So, presumably, you have not yet been migrated to Greenby?

I really don’t care whether you agree or not.
I have had no end of trouble since the initial notification and Plusnet have not managed the migration as they should.
I continually get failed to send messages through relay.plus.net even though I have changed nothing, and as for Greenby, well absolutely nothing at all from them.
You won’t see me there !

Here's a general question, to nobody in particular (apart from people who have not yet been transferred to Greenby?):
Q. What actually is the point of all these e.g. "Avoiding Greenby" type threads?
Also... perhaps they should all go in the Plusnet Feedback thread? (Home Phone???)

Exactly. All the people are aggrieved that PlusNet is dropping a decades-long standing service, and are finding nowhere to complain about it but here. PlusNet is trying to make the blow lane as softly as possible, and still supports this forum (“phone” topic, heh), including the wailing and gnashing of teeth, and the denizens here are happy to support each other on it.
(Anyway, welcome to the forums, Tom.)

Whatever that "blow lane" means, however softly.
It's just an exemplar of corporate suicide as far as I can see. Used to be good, now limping towards death like a sad thing parasitised by BT etc.

Thankyou for spotting my typo @LSAS . I should have written “make the blow LAND as softly as possible”, and maybe I shouldn’t have responded to @pvmb ‘s tongue-in-cheek and rhetorical question
I don’t claim to understand why PN seems to have decided it has a clearer and more effective future focusing solely on broadband, but I’m often happy with any provider that sets out to deliver one product, and to do it well. The market is full of ever-swirling tides of competitors each trying to bamboozle customers with bloat and wrap they never asked for, but where the marketing bods are deciding might score more customers this quarter. Greenby migration will make a lot of people grumble, but it should be sufficient for a huge number of people who never signed up to hotmail/gmail/yahoo and just don’t want the hassle of moving.
And I’m happy that PN didn’t just inform everyone, and set a date to delete everyone’s email accounts. Now that certainly would be corporate suicide.
