Constantly high ping spikes on league of legends, game is unplayable

I keep getting random high ping on League of Legends, I have no idea why it's only this game that I have this issue with but would like some advice on how to get this resolved. I'm getting really sick of it working one minute then being unplayable the next, this issue is risking me loosing my account because I am constantly being reported for it.
I had no issue with my previous ISP and have no issue with other games while it's happening.
Advice?

How long have you had the issue?
Not sure if it's related, but there does seem some kind of issue affecting the game and some UK ISPs at the moment (both connectivity and pings) - http://forums.euw.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?t=2056184&page=47

Standard checks...Wireless or Wired?
How many people use the connection? I used to live with 3 gamers and you'd know when someone starts downloading a torrent or uploading to youtube etc etc.
I play League daily and have no issues. Only issues I have had are either prior to Amsterdam data center with EUW or faulty router (slowly dying)
