Re: Unhappy with internal FTTP install

I appreciate all replies.

My flat is an adapted home so yes the plug sockets are all higher than normal.

Looks like I'll be getting onto OpenReach within the next few days to see what they say.

Re: Unhappy with internal FTTP install

As much as its just words, i'm sorry that this happened to you with the install. if the ont came off and dangled it could given how much fibre was given, break the fibre cable.

Re: Unhappy with internal FTTP install

I've raised a complaint with OpenReach. I asked for an assessment of the situation and a through discussion about the way forward. Said I didn't want the same engineer back.

Also swapped the extension for a longer one, and a shorter ethernet cable.

I'll keep this up to date

Re: Unhappy with internal FTTP install

Finally had initial reply from OpenReach today, they've forwarded it onto the contracted company and asked for photos.

I've laid out my three concerns:
Engineer didn't try hard enough to bring line in lower down.
ONT was plonked on wall without any consideration inappropriately.
The short fibre cable.

I've asked for:
A new engineer to attend and throughly assess bringing line in lower
If that isn't possible, relocate the ONT, sort out the short cable and make good to a high standard.

I know its not part of your complaint, but make sure the photos show how short the fibre cable is.

Re: Unhappy with internal FTTP install

Unannounced drop in from the sub contractor today (different engineer). They hadn't been provided with my phone number.

The cable definitely cannot come in any lower.

Didn't see an issue with the fibre cable.

We came up with a plan, next week he will return, change the orientation of cable cap and move the ONT a few inches to the right. Allowing straight lines downwards so I can tidy with trunking.

He took photos for his manager.

Watch this space!

Re: Unhappy with internal FTTP install

Engineer returned today. His attitude was much more amenable so hopefully it went back to his manager who agreed something needed to be done.

New install which I will ask my friend to hole fill & trunk at some point.
