Speed

My 150 service consistently runs between 90 and 95.

I have tested it using Ethernet and Wifi and the automated line check says there is no problem and it has reset the line.

I know 80 is the minimum so do I just have to accept it as I thought the full fibre was supposed to give full speed given that the excuse used to be the old copper wires.

.

Re: Speed

@cfcws

My 150 service consistently runs between 90 and 95.

That sounds suspiciously like a faulty ( or cat5 only ) cable, which is limiting the speed to 100Mb.

What does the Hub 2 status screen say for the connection speed ?

Re: Speed

Thank you I will check that later.

I may have mixed up my cables.

Re: Speed

WAN speed is100 on the status page but the current cable says Cat5E.

Although I am not sure it is the original cable.

Could it be anything else?

Re: Speed

WAN speed is100 on the status page

Well that's the problem! Now we just need to work out why.

but the current cable says Cat5E.

Does that cable have 8 cores ?

First thing is to try a different cable between the WAN port on the router and the ONT.

You're looking for a WAN speed of 1000Mb on the status page.

Re: Speed

Fix

It was the cable although I am not sure why as it seemed the same but obviously it wasn't.

Thank you for your help I would not have thought the cable could be the problem.

Re: Speed

A faulty cat5e cable can cause the speed to reduce to 100Mb. A Cat5 cable has 4 cores and will operate at 100Mb, a cat5e has 8 cores and is capable of 1000Mb. If there's a bad connector or a break in one core , a cat5e cable will still work but the speed will reduce to the cat5 max of 100Mb.
