Speed

We used to be on Fibre 74 download speeds 47 - 67 mbs. Have recently changed to Full Fibre 300 expecting there to be a noticeable difference in speed.  The line is testing at 310 - 320 mbs today which falls within the range promised however there is no noticeable difference in how long it takes to load anything and in fact at times it appears to be slower than it was on the previous deal. Spoke to someone at Plusnet and they said the speed was o.k and that it was possibly because there were other devices linked.  These are exactly the same devices that were linked on the previous deal so there should be some noticeable difference in speed or am I being too optimistic? I am wondering why I bothered changing and paying more if I am not seeing the benefit.

Are your devices connected wired or wireless ?

Re: Speed

Ok, so forget wireless tests for the moment and concentrate on wired.

The line is testing at 310 - 320 mbs today

What test was showing those speeds ?

Re: Speed

322.35 Download   48.32 Upload.  The speeds are falling within range but there is just no noticeable increase in speed.

@Bamboozled1

"322.35 Download   48.32 Upload." - So there's your increase in speed. 🙂

"The speeds are falling within range but there is just no noticeable increase in speed."

I noticed no subjective "increase in speed" when I went from 40/10 Mbps FTTC to 150 Mbps FTTP, but the link has increased in speed and is working as it should. It depends on what you expect and mean by "increase in speed". Increase in speed in doing what? You won't notice any difference with general web browsing or emails. Are there any pauses or hesitations, for instance on a video stream?

Re: Speed

Perhaps I am expecting too much then. Was under the impression that the Full Fibre was going to be a better product than I had which it hasn't turned out to be for us.  Still takes a while for pages to load when browsing and you get the timer going round until the page loads.  I had visions of the pages just coming through must quicker without the delay.  We do get some hesitations when streaming but not too bothered with that side of things.  Think I will just have to accept that I have signed another deal for something that hasn't given us the improvement I hoped for. Thanks for all the help and advice.

Re: Speed

@Bamboozled1 If the speed tests are coming through at those you have quoted, then you are 'getting what you paid for', and there must be other things in play, affecting your equipment internally - after the ONT, which is where PN's responsibility ends.

Some sites are slower than others and so an increase in available speed may not be apparent.

Are you using the default Plusnet DNS servers ?
