Poor Xbox connection.

Hi,

I have just had the new FTTP upgrade and currently getting 478mb, all seemed to go smoothly, thanks.

However, one of the reasons for upgrade was the poor speeds my son gets on his Xbox Series X. The router is downstairs at the bottom of the stairs, and my sons bedroom is upstairs, so close to the router.

My speed downstairs on the Xbox shows as 200mb. His speed upstairs is 20mb. He has complained about this for months.

I am the worst at Technical things and have no idea how to go into the router and mess about with things. Imm reading about 2.4gz and 5gz and it might as well be in arabic.

Any advice from you guys, geniouses such as Adam would be much appreciated so my lad can cheer up?

Thanks

Re: Poor Xbox connection.

I have also tried to attach a couple of photos of my Xbox test and his but can’t see to do it.

It is worth noting that his shows 74mb at the minute, however having just watched 5 minutes of him on a couple of games he has getting some bad lag.

@DeeeeeJ

Is the XBox connected via wired or WiFi?

You need to make a certain amount pf posts before you can attach a picture (3 or 5?) but you should be able to post inline using the icon that looks like a rectangle with a mountain in it.

Re: Poor Xbox connection.

WiFI is poor for gaming, using an ethernet cable is the optimal way to game.
WiFi even if next to the console will be susceptible to higher latency and interference due to the nature of it.

If possible run a cable from the router to the xbox.

Re: Poor Xbox connection.

I was hoping there would be another solution rather than an ethernet cable.

Not a chance the missus is going to allow that going up the stairs tripping over it every 5 minutes 🤦🏻

@DeeeeeJ

Not the cheapest option but have you considered getting someone in to run an external cable upstairs, terminated in ethernet wall plugs. Gives a solid starting point (XBox an / or WiFi Access point) plus is future proof.
