Hi all, i have just had plusnet full fibre installed yesterday , returning after many years away to plusnet ![]()
i went for the 300mb package and evrything went fine and without a hitch, speeds fine, working with no issues wired or over wifi
So to my point- i logged on to my account yesterday and was greeted by a offer/deal to upgrade to 500mb for the same price for the next couple of years, so i thought like anyone else would, why not.
So i upgraded, got the confirmaition emails etc etc, and said would go live today, been at work most of day so not had chance to check, but home now and my speed is pretty much the same around 250 to 300 i was getting yesterday, maybe even slightly slower tbh, wired and over wifi , however the upload speed does seem to be nearer 70 now so im assuming something has kicked in.
I have read conflicting posts about a 10 day settle period,so is the 500 slow because of this, or has it possibly not been implemented correctly , or is the 300 the fastest i can actually get, or do i need to speak to someone to ask about it?

Ok, lets be clear, there is NO settling period for FTTP , it goes at the provisioned speed immediately or not at all!

The fact that the upload has increased to 70 would imply that the connection has been reprovisioned. Are you testing on a direct wired connection to the router ? (a Hub 2 i assume?). There's no powerlines involved is there ?

Testing wireless is no use really, there's so much that can affect wireless speeds. The Hub 2 is only Wifi 5 and so will max out at around 400-450Mb anyway!.
So only wired tests direct to the router are of any use in determining whether the connection speed is correct.
Try testing with the Ookla tester (speedtest.net) .
What device are you using to do the wired tests ? can it actually handle the speedtest throughput ( some older devices may not)

Its my main Pc thats connected to it , but not sure if there was a glitch or something , i turned everything on and off again and seems to be better albeit with some strange results , wired now 4-450, wifi in the same room on an adaptor is 300, but on my phone its 450 , so may need a better adaptor, it is 5ghz though but strange, rest of house 250 to 300 which to be fair is to be expected, although maybe no need to keep 500 when contract ends lol
However overall it does seem the speed upgrade has come through now, i have toyed with the idea of a new router instead of the plusnet one with wifi 6 on it , but thats a plan for another day i think
Thank you for your help

@unbiased999 good to see its looking like the connection speed is now correct after restart.

When you say adaptor , do you mean a USB wifi adaptor ? If its only USB 2 or plugged into a USB 2 port then that would explain the 300Mb. You need a USB 3 adaptor and port to get better than that.

A did that a while ago. My laptop was only getting 400Mb (on a FF900 connection) with a Wifi 5 router. The laptop already had a Wifi 6 capable network card, With a Wifi 6 capable router it now gets around 750Mb. On your FF500 connection you're not going to see much improvement though unless you have a lot of local traffic on the LAN.
