Re: MTU Setting

More Info:

At first I thought it must be a PS Network issue, rang Plusnet customer service last week and the nice lady said there was nothing they could do and it may be a software fault on Sony's side to which I thought more than likely. After getting in contact with Sony the advice given was to open certain ports on my router, I've never had to do this before on any isp or modem/router but I did anyway and again it did not resolve the problem. It was only until I took my PS Vita to my mate's house on Friday that I realised maybe it's not a PSN issue as it worked without error. Differences being, Router, Service Provider and ADSL2 instead of Fibre. I should be able to check it on Thursday on a Plusnet Business connection, narrowing it down to only router and connection type.

Edit: Seriously how do I quote, the tag thing is working but prefer to quote.

Highlight and copy what you want to quote.

In reply click the "insert code" icon, past quote in that window.

Not necessarily, 1492 is just the typical maximum MTU of other routers when connecting to an external modem using the PPPoE protocol.

My current router has the ability to set the router MTU to 1508 so that the PPPoE link to the modem can take the full 1500 ethernet packet size.  But at the same time I'm also running an IPv6 tunnel on the same connection and that has an MTU of 1472 and works perfectly.  So don't get hung up on wanting 1492, it's just a number, and probably not a very optimum one either.

As @npr alluded to, if the router is fixed at 1488 then don't worry about it, but try finding an equal or lower MTU for the PS which makes the error you are seeing go away.

I'm not super technical, just a tid bit. I can follow what you tell me Smiley unless you get super duper Crazy technical then I'll have to ask.
I have no idea what the number 1492 represents, I just want a number that allows me to play online if possible without disconnects
1500 or anything down to 1400 via the PS (took ages to set manually and reboot btw Wink) didn't clear it.

Agreed. Thumbs_Up

I'm having the following error over the Playstation Network "The router in use may not support IP Fragments..."

Does it say this is a error message?

Looks more like a information message which IMO can be safely ignored.

Re: MTU Setting

I would definitely ignore it if I could get online Wink

It's an internet/network settings test message that also fails to result the dl/ul speed which never did previously.
Only came across it after failing to connect to certain online games. (Can connect to the PSN no problems)

Re: MTU Setting

Could it be the game server is down?

I'm not familiar with the PS, but can you connect to other sites?
Is this any help:

Anyone else having problems making posts?

Every 2nd or 3rd post is failing with "Secure Connection Failed", may be this end as I've been DLM'd with g.inp removed.

Re: MTU Setting

Don't see any problems there.
Although I assume that's from a PC not the PS.

Nah won't be PSN, had trouble for at least 2 weeks that I know of (maybe since I joined), I'm a newbie Smiley only been with PN for 4 weeks and even still the customer service is outstanding, lovely people on the phone.

I had trouble this week with NDT and NSC but since OR engineer came out Friday all been fine, was on PH yesterday morning with no problems Embarrassed

I've not had any trouble here, other than the new forum being slow and clunky.

However, @jaread83 is collecting evidence of "Secure Connection Failed" in this topic -

Authentication error on community - are you affected?

if you could leave some screen shots there, along with which OS and what browser version  Wink

Yeah from PC, not PS.

Maybe PS doesn't like 1488 ?

Wondering if buying a modem/router with the ability to save MTU to 1492 will resolve my issue, I don't mind buying it but man am I having a hard time deciding on one that hasn't been discontinued and difficult to get hold of.
Settled on either Asus DSL-56U, Netgear D6400 or TP-Link Archer VR900 but wasn't sold on any of them Sad
