Internet connection issue (upload =0)

Internet connection tonight has suddenly degraded to almost 0. Speed tests show maximum typical download (45mbps) but upload is 0 or very close to 0, upload is normally around 6mbps but was 11ish at one point a few years ago. Ping is 11 and using Google speed test. Rebooted router etc and same issue every time. Main concern is WFH on Monday morning and my other half on Tuesday.

Any ideas what it could be please?

I have raised a ticket but need to try and get this sorted ASAP.

Thank you.

Re: Internet connection issue (upload =0)

@j_s  Check if you have devices constantly uploading, such as iphones synchronising folders or photos or something which will saturate the upload, if that happens download will also be crippled because every download data packet has to send an upload acknowledgement. if it can't do that download will slow down or completely stop.

Re: Internet connection issue (upload =0)

I've had some uploads running before that max out the upload. Nothing I can tell is syncing or trying to at the moment.

Thanks for your post @j_s and welcome to our Community Forums.

I'm sorry to see you're having speed issues.

I've tested your line today and the tests aren't showing any issues with your modem still getting the expected speed of 6.9mbps. Are your devices connecting to the router wirelessly or wired into it direct using an ethernet cable?

Re: Internet connection issue (upload =0)

Hi Gandalf

I had no working connection up until 09:15 this morning. I then went out and got back around 11. It is now working so no idea why it failed out of the blue with no upload for 2 days.

I have wired and wireless devices (Ubiquiti WAP + switch) along with built in Wifi on the router. None of the connections were working no matter what device was trying. They could download but a lot of the time most connectivity I needed didn't work as it needed to have a stable upload even if the data uploaded was tiny (Youtube worked, but no other streaming service did, Sky Q download on demand also somehow worked), work wise, sftp did not along with Outlook, RDP etc. My router showed pretty much 0 upload in all this time so it wasn't software or hardware maxing out my upload bandwidth causing this.

Very strange.

Edit: On my local neighbourhood app I noticed a few others who said they used Plusnet also had issues in the same postcode area. Related? It would be great to confirm if this was an exchange issue or card issue just to give me piece of mind my line/comms gear are ok.

Re: Internet connection issue (upload =0)

Thanks for getting back to me @j_s

I'm afraid I can't tell you what caused this, because line tests aren't showing any issues.

We can't see historic service problems. For example, if a line is impacted by a service problem, it'd flag up when we test the line but if that problem is then marked as resolved, the test wouldn't show a problem.

I'm glad to see though your connection's back to normal.

Let me know if you have further issues or there's anything else you'd need help with.
