I believe there are two kinds of connection used with FTTP.
CBT or Connectorised Block Terminal Fibre and Legacy Fibre.
I believe CBT has a 20% failure rate with the Legacy Fibre much more reliable.
How do I know which connection I have? I am assuming the former.

Not sure where you're getting this information from but I question its authneticity. The current methods for FTTP installation will favour efficiency and reliability; it would make little practical sense for the failure rate to be so high.

I'd be interested to know your source, too, @Eggs . A quick Google doesn't throw up any useful responses.

If you're fed by an overhead pole look at the pole to see if it's got a CBT hanging from it. You won't know if the feed is underground unless you see the chamber open.
If your FTTP (network) was installed in the past 3 or 4 years it's probably CBT.

Around my way on the poles OR are using CBTs and the alnets are using AFN (Aerial Fibre nodes) and ASN (Aerial subscriber nodes)

@EggsI believe CBT has a 20% failure rate with the Legacy Fibre much more reliable.
‘20% failure rate’ is a meaningless statistic.
What sort of failure? Is it referring to the loss of a working service? Or, is it the number of times that the installation technician has to re-terminate an optical connection, which is corrected at the time, etc.?
And then what is the times scale? Is that 20% per day, or per year or per lifetime of the service etc.?
To quote W S Churchill: “Statistics are like a drunk with a lamp post, used more for support than illumination”.

@bmc , @Baldrick1 I doubt we'll get a response - the OP is a bit of a irregular visitor.😉

That looks to be a BT users opinion from nearly 5 years ago, from probably the fairly early days of CBTs being introduced. There doesn't seem to be anything to back up that on there either.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@Eggs That topic is nearly five years old. When was your Fibre connection enabled, and how are you connected - underground or O/H cable?

@Eggs So your 20% failure rate figure is a statement from a post years ago on the BT community forum by a "Recognised Expert" .. must be correct then? I don't think so.🙄

My connection is via an overhead cable installed last year.

So, you will be connected via a CBT, and as has been pointed out, that topic is from 5 years ago, when FTTP was in its infancy.
There have been gigantic leaps in technology since then.

This infers that this post is referring to early life failures made in the early days of fibre installations with inexperienced installers.
This is very unlikely to bear any relevance 5 years down the line. This forum is certainly not indicating that there are any significant reliability issues.
