Re: Engineer did arrive (better late than never!)..

I think using the car I measure it about half a mile.
I'd estimate 36 d,  8 u though speed tester gives me 33/8
I have seen higher than 33 however so not sure about that.  36 could have been pre-training.

Re: Profile still stuck.

Any chance you can keep all this in one of your current threads? It's pretty tricky to keep on top of 3/4 threads about the same thing?
I'll go look at your profile now.

Three topics merged - I haven't spotted the fourth yet

Sorry.. each was kind of a different topic though.  Admittedly, profile issue was mentioned in most.
Noticed it's now been updated - thanks.  Will check out my new speeds after work.  Engineer got 40 so fingers crossed for 37 after training.

Re: Engineer did arrive (better late than never!)..

what did you guys get quoted at by plusnet upon ordering. They have estimated my line at 31meg down 2up. I can see the box from my front window its literally 10 metres away.
31 is good buy hoping for as much as possible  Smiley

Re: Engineer did arrive (better late than never!)..

I was estimated 26/6, and reckon I'm getting at least 33/8, if not 36/8.
The estimates do seem to be quite cautious.

BT's checker estimates  gives 30.1/6.2, Plusnet estimates 30.
The cabinet is 500m by either possible route to the house.

I thought uploads were capped at 2, how come you guys are getting 6 and 8 up?

Re: Engineer did arrive (better late than never!)..

We managed to get on the trail, which did 10 up, unless you were estimated to have upload of 4.9 and below.
PN Have hinted they will consider (sorry, can't get any less committal) offering 10Mbit uploads in the future.  (Yep, hint, consider, future.... don't hold your breath!).

I'm estimated 30 by BT and plusnet, my box is over the road!!!!!!
Must be about 30m in cabling, pretty sure I should be getting more than you.

Re: Engineer did arrive (better late than never!)..

Those figures, if true, would mean that the cable doesn't actually cross the road - and might go down the road & back. Sometimes the discrepancy can be worked out if you know what order the various streets/estates are built in.
We aren't on the closest cabinet - but that was installed after the house was built, so is kinda obvious. There is also a cabinet directly inline between us and the exchange, which would make the total line length shorter (but our house-cabinet length would be longer); we're not on that either. The cabinet we *are* on means that the full line takes a large extra loop on the way back to the exchange.
Yet knowing when our estate was built, and the order it was done in, you can tell where the BT wiring goes out to the cabinet. The distance is then obvious, and very much matches the BT prediction.
What does BT's DSL checker tell you? http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
