Broadband only migration to Full Fibre

My current PlusNet service is broadband only - the analogue phone line is with BT.  This is from the days when broadband providers would activate broadband on an existing line they did not supply.

My area is ready for full-fibre. I assume if I switch my broadband service to FTTP with PlusNet the analogue line will remain working afterwards as a phone line and will not be ceased when the FTTP migration happens.

I am interested as I then want to port the number to a VoIP provider, to cease the line.

@ccarmock

I would phone the PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 and see what they say.

My understanding is that a transfer to Full Fibre will automatically cease the BT service. You need to specifically request that Full Fibre is installed as a second connection and pay for two services until you cancel the original service. However this will cause complications if you are currently in mid contract.

With a simple update to Full Fibre you have 30 days to transfer your landline number to VoIP.

Re: Broadband only migration to Full Fibre

Thank you for this- really helpful.  I am currently out of contract with PlusNet.

It's an interesting one since the broadband service is with Plusnet but they do not manage my phone service. So am surprised that an order I place with PlusNet for broadband only migration would affect phone service with a different provider.  But of course there are quirks with this.

Did I understand correctly that if I allowed a normal regrade from copper VDSL to Full Fibre to go through that resulted in the cancellation of the phone service i can still get the number moved to a VoIP provider within 30 days?  If so it sounds like I needn't  worry but just ensure the number port request goes in quickly.

That's correct. Its an OFCOM requirement that the number remains available for porting for 30 days after cease.

AIUI the standard procedure to transfer to Full fibre causes a 'transfer of ownership cease' on the phone line.

Fix

@ccarmock

You must be sure that you get confirmation from Plusnet that the transfer to Full Fibre is complete before moving the number to VoIP. VoIP providers are aware of the time restraints so there should be no worries with that aspect. Obviously you will be without a landline  for the intrvening period.
