Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

To be clear, I'm happy with the latency throughput and speed of my connection, I am however curious as to why some gateways fluctuate around 3mb in D/L speed while others do not. Below is my latest graph of the last 2 gateways I've been on, current pcl-bng02 previous pcl-ag07, Is this due to the way the bng gateways are configured to save bandwidth ect on low demand, then deliver more on high demand? 'Wild guess of course', as I've said, I'm just curious.

Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

It is suspicious that the tests always seem to result in one or the other of those two speeds, 2.8Mbps apart.
Am I right to assume that you aren't swapping gateway each time the test varies from 33.8 to 36.6?
I had a similar effect 3 years ago - but only after swapping gateways; speeds would stay consistent once you had moved to a gateway. However, it was the change of gateway that was important, not the one you landed on. See this picture I annotated at the time, and you'll see pcl-ag04 appears twice, once with fast speeds, and once with slow speeds.
Those speed differences could also be seen on SamKnows tests, but only on the off-peak tests (at the time, fibre packages were throttled during peak hours)

Yes you are.
The following graph below is of my last 30 days, in which period I have switched from bng to ag07 back to bng. Just for a laff I shall now bounce to a none bng gateway then report back in a few days with an updated graph.

Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

wwwombat this is because gateways each have more than one endpoint.

Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

Is there a way to find out which endpoint within a gateway?

Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

dont think so, plusnet themselves probably can tell but a traceroute wont show it.

Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

As promised, the D/L graph is shifting about 0.5mb now that I've moved away from the bng gateway.

You are currently connected to gateway pcl-ag07.
This is located in City Lifeline House.

Weird.
And annoying that I can't do any testing to figure things out either...

Very....
My normal shift is about 0.5mb by the way.

I quite like the way the scatter graph represents things

Re: Speed fluctuations on gateways

Now my fibre connection is working, I see exactly the same dual-speed effect. All 71.2 or 74.3Mbps
This is on ptw-bng02
