I assume that the hosted domain would use the same webspace. 

I'm surprised that the domain registration is chargeable , my understanding was that like the webspace & email , it was free for the first two years.

Hopefully one of the Plusnet staff will pick up my escalation ( but maybe not till Monday ) and investigate

I have just received this email today from Greenby about my web space. there is a lot of conflicting information from PlusNet and different departments in Greenby. I can only say I'm very disappointed with this whole process and the additional cost that I will now incur to host my domain name, website and email. none of it will be free at all.

Domain £7 +vat/year = £8.40

Web space £4.80 +vat/month £5.76 = £69.12/year

Email £12.50 +vat/year = £15.00

Giving an additional annual cost £92.52

The £4,80/m charge is only for the advanced hosting I.e cgi. The normal  webspace is included with the email , which is free for the first two years from Plusnet broadband customers.

As for the £7 domain registration charge , I've queried that elsewhere and will report when I have an answer

The £4.80/m is exorbitant IMO , if you really need dynamic websipace then look at Mythic beasts https://www.mythic-beasts.com/hosting , their basic web package is only £2.50/m

From what I can gather Hostopia is the site our webpages are actually store at. If we wish to keep our web pages they can be migrated to Greenby for a cost of £4.80 +vat per month (for 1GB data size) otherwise you have until the 5th Nov 2026 to move them to another platform, after which your files will be deleted from Hostopia.

no, only the ccgi space is hosted  by Hostopua. So unless you had ccgi webspace on your Plusnet  account, all your website was hosted directly by Plusnet and has now been moved to Greenby and is free for 2 hrs.

Mister W, I agree. If any ISP removes fringe benefits such as email, newsgroups, domain registration and webspace, so you have to pay extra for what was previously included in your subscription, the cost of the remaining service should go down correspondingly. If the cost remains the same, they must take us for fools if they think we won't notice...

Unfortunately those 'fringe benefits' ( if they ever were  ) have not been part of the contract for some years now. So anyone with a current contract will likely only have continued access to those services on a goodwill basis

At the time I initially signed up for with Force9, email was part of the package.  Though it now not part of the contract it is one of the reasons that I haven't switched.  The only time it wasn't my main account was because Force9 didn't have FRIACO but Plusnet did but once Force9 I switched back to using Force9.  I imagine that moving people over to Greenby may result in may people who have used Plusnet for years leaving and the cost of the email is probably going to be higher than getting them back or acquiring a replacement customer.

So to clarify...

A "simple", static website (HTML pages and images), without any PHP, CGI or database, will continue to be provided - free for two years and then included in the annual charge that gives you email and web hosting.

Is the £7 domain registration a one-off initial charge or will it be an annual charge?

And if PN web hosting had a domain pointing to it, will that domain automatically continue to point to the new Greenby hosting of the site? Is it necessary for the user to do anything to make sure that the domain continues?

I presume in two years' time, Greenby *will* contact users to set up the annual payment, and won't just silently close email and web hosting because they haven't been able to (or even tried to) contact the user.
