Your PlusNet Website is over its bandwidth allowance

Hi, I had the following email today. Previuosly I have  contacted Plus and they have sorted it out. I did ring today, but I don't think the guy at the other end had ever come up against this problem. Any ideas about how to get the website back up and running ?Huh

Dear Customer,

It has come to our attention that in the last 24 hours your website has exceeded its bandwidth allowance by a significant amount.

Unfortunately, because of the amount over the limit, your site has been archived.  Please contact us if you want your site to be restored.

Your website used 199862 KB OVER its bandwidth transfer allowance during the last 24 hours.

A condition of your site being restored is that you take precautions to ensure that future levels of usage don't exceed what is allowed on your account.

Kind regards,

PlusNet Abuse Team

Re: Your PlusNet Website is over its bandwidth allowance

Hi @Dr_Ed PlusNet are pretty mean on website bandwidth - as if 200MB made even the slightest difference to their own gigantic bandwidth! The only real solution is to move to a decent website host.

Meantime if you’ve not got one already you need to try putting a readable robots.txt file in your website root with the following text:

user-agent: *

disallow: /

which should keep well behaved crawlers out. Also look at your logs and see which files are taking up your bandwidth and maybe protect them somehow.
