Static IP lost the day after house move

Hi, my static IP which I've had for over 20 years was removed when I rebooted the router 24 hours after a house move.

I phoned support and they said they their systems wouldn't allow them to reassign the old one. They have allocated me another static address, but he said from the pool of naughty customers who haven't paid, so it might start redirecting to a reminder page!

I've just read on the forum of several other customers experiencing the same thing, and in each case the wonderful PlusNet techs have restored their original static IP.

Please can I have mine back, I don't like being in the naughty range, I've always been good, honest!

Not yet. I've been away on business this week, so it would be better for it to be done now I'm back and not on the other end of the VPN.

Unfortunately I took my eye off the ball on this one and didn't chase it up, so the support team have just got back to me saying restoring the IP address "isn't possible".

@druck

Does this mean you can't get your old static address back, or you can't get any static address back now?

OK. I see this was answered in the OP! 😀

Re: Static IP lost the day after house move

I was allocated another static IPv4 address straight away, but worryingly was informed that the only ones they have left are in the range they allocate to customers who fail to keep up payments, and are used to redirect web requests to warnings to that effect. They said, "hopefully that wont happen", which hardly fills me with confidence.

Re: Static IP lost the day after house move

@druck

Well, it hasn't happened to me as yet! (My original IP was from the range 31.125.*.*; now 212.159.*.*). Though last night, using my phone rather than PC to access the forum, I had to be checked out by Cloudflare. Never seen that before.

If you have access to the old Plusnet firewall via your account, you can always get yourself another static IP by turning the firewall off, rebooting the router, turning the firewall on again and rebooting the router. But you can't choose what address you will get.
