RDNS/PTR Change limitations... why?

Why does plusnet force you to use a sub domain?

Why do they force you to have the A record in place in advance?

And why can't they just delete the PTR record entirely?

All of these are perfectly valid configs, all of our other ISPs will do this without question. Then considering its taken months (Dec 2021) and our PTR requests have yet to be applied, you can imagine trying to get the PTR setup in advance of an A record change....

Re: RDNS/PTR Change limitations... why?

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to see the issues you've had.

If you can private message me your account username, I'll be happy to chase up your rDNS request.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: RDNS/PTR Change limitations... why?

The question was mainly aimed at the needless limitations of the RDNS options and not our specific issue.

It's not really something we ourselves have much control over to be honest @rdj, though I do apologise if the options we do offer aren't adequate for what you need.

No worries.

Do you mean from your own perspective (induvidual staff members) or the business?

Its certainly not a limitation of the DNS system at all.

Re: RDNS/PTR Change limitations... why?

Correct, in terms of the guidance we're given, we're only able to offer to change rDNS to either the account username, a static IP address, or a domain of your choice once the A record has been set.
