Re: Landlines are going digital

Thanks MisterW, bmc and Baldrick1,

It is a Plusnet Router I purchsed about 3 years ago, it says N67S on the reverse.

I am not too comfortable with posting pictures of the garden, hope you understand.

Maybe my next move should be to call Plusnet and speak to an advisor.

Fix

@greengrass

You'll get a Hub2 when you upgrade to Full Fibre. When you connect it it will have a different network id and password to what you currently use. Teh easiest way to sort things is to go into the Hub2 Admin page and change the settings to what you currently use. Saves changing all your devices.

Fair enough with the garden picture. It was just a thought.

If you want to talk to PN try the PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632

Brian

Edit : Mis-read you're post. If you currently don't have a Hub2 you'd get one. You can tell which you have here

Re: Landlines are going digital

I had put off calling as I dread calling anyone especially sales team (not PN) as I have experienced pushy staff trying to upsell before. I am not talking about Plusnet, other utilities.

I did call yesterday to ask if installation would be straightforward or if I would need groundwork completed first.

Apparently the advisor told me it is an easy install, should take about an hour. Only two dates available, I am working on one of those so it wont be until the 29th May.

That is ok with me no rush. I am happy with the 6mb and 0.75 upload I get at the moment.

It is only me that uses the service, I use a laptop and have a smart TV that I sometimes watch Youtube on. No gaming.

I do not use my mobile for browsing, only texting.

I was told I will need Full Fibre 300 which is £28:99 a month, I said I would prefer Full Fibre 74 for £23:99 a month.

As it is way faster than I currently get and am happy with.

I was told to go for Full Fibre 145 as it is the same price per month, so I agreed.

I wonder why they are both the same price? I expect when my 2 year contract runs out the cost of the 145 will be higher than the 74, maybe.

Always be a little bit sceptical about what first line 'advisers' tell you. They love telling you what you want to hear. The Openreach records identify a congested duct.

If you are lucky there will be room in the duct for the fibre. If you are unlucky, the installer might withdraw and you will have to wait until a new duct is installed.

Alternatively, the installer may try using the existing copper connection to pull through the fibre. If you are very unlucky this will go horribly wrong and you will end up with neither a copper or fibre connection until a new duct is installed.

@greengrass

The ISP is hoping that when you come to renew your contract next time you won't notice the difference in price between FF74 and FF145. The end of contract is a good time to downgrade if you don't need the speed and it's cheaper.

Re: Landlines are going digital

Or FF300 becomes the same price as FF150 as a new sweetener.

Re: Landlines are going digital

As for why a faster speed is the same price as a slower speed, there is negligable cost to Plusnet in providing the higher speed as you won't use much more data (if any).

The Openreach pricing (to Plusnet) may also encourage the sale of the faster product to the end customer.

I am the satisfied customer....

Re: Landlines are going digital

I see, thanks for the information.

I just hope it does not go horribly wrong and I am not left with no internet connection at all if a new duct does need to be installed.

Now that you have made me aware of the worst case scenario I will speak to the engineer when he is here and ask if he can please not leave me without a connection.

I know where I think the best place is for the ONT, 2.8 meters inside the front wall, next to a double socket.

I will have the sofa moved out of the way and no dust or cobwebs as I am sure they don't like working in a unclean environment Smiley

Re: Landlines are going digital

I see, thank-you. I did wonder if that was the case.

I will keep my eye on the prices when it is time to renew.
