IPv6 update April 2026

April 2026:  Just in case anybody is interested, still no movement on Plusnet enabling IPv6 support. Seems odd, as apparently their sister companies BT Internet\EE is rolling it out so I'm told?  As Plusnet no longer offers a fixed IP addresses, this makes it difficult for us radio hams who link repeaters via the web as our kit doesn't always support like DYNDNS etc.

Thankfully, I've been a Plusnet customer for many years so have a fixed IP4 address  but IPV6 would save all that faffing about with opening ports, ah well.

Re: IPv6 update April 2026

@philbridges there is currently an IPv6 trial in progress on the 'high touch' network ( those with static IP's ).

Have a read here https://community.plus.net/t5/IPv6-Trial/IPv6-Trial-Update/td-p/2006834. There's a possibilty of some more places so may be worth adding your request to that thread.

but IPV6 would save all that faffing about with opening ports, ah well.

It doesn't, routers still implement a 'stateful' IPv6 firewall so if you want incoming connections to an IPv6 host , you still have to add firewall rules.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: IPv6 update April 2026

Thanks, I did mention the trial when they phoned me this afternoon, but they said it's a no go.

We (us radio hams) have some specific radio linking software that when running on IPv4, needs 6 UDP ports opened. The new release last month can take full advantage of IPv6 if available and doesn't need any ports opened so more secure.

Guess Plusnet really are an independent company....
