IP address is assigned a Postcode in wrong town

When browsing, sites think I am in Gateshead, not mid-Wales. Searching the web suggests that this postcode location is assigned to my IP by PlusNet.  How do I correct this or get this corrected?

@daiwatt46664 Do not worry where they 'think' you are - unless it is outside the UK. Geolocation is a very imprecise art - Google maps for instance currently thinks I'm in Wiltshire, which is quite a distance from Sheffield.

Re: IP address is assigned a Postcode in wrong town

Post codes are not assigned to a Public IP by the ISP.

Many mobile devices have Apple Relay enabled, this like any VPN or Proxy will give misleading location results.

What do you see with : https://whatismyipaddress.com/
before considering the location, verify the Public IP displayed matches the Public IP shown in your Hub / Router.

@PhilipHeyes  I've tried your link and It reckons my location is over 200 Miles north of where I live.....

As I said IP location is very 'approximate'  my laptop says I'm in Wiltshire (Tewksbury  area), although both iPad and iPhone correctly have me in SW Sheffield.

@PhilipHeyes link puts me in Manchester, where my ISP's northern data centre is.

Thanks for all the replies.

https://whatismyipaddress.com/ --> London

Sites think I'm at CA26 3SD (Gateshead) - where is this coming from if not ISP?

I'm in Hay-on-Wye (Powys)

Have tried configuring location setting and addresses within Google ; have cleared caches.

so not sure how to correct this 'misalignment'

Re: IP address is assigned a Postcode in wrong town

@daiwatt46664 See previous comments - it depends which IP location databases the sites use, and even those databases are quite often wrong.

You, nor anyone else, can correct this anomaly.

What does https://nordvpn.com/ip-lookup/ say about your location?

Probably something different. Puts me in Oxfordshire, which is a new one, and still wrong.

Re: IP address is assigned a Postcode in wrong town

Out of interest. Are you on Plusnet allocated IP? If so, are you on a (legacy) fixed IP?

Re: IP address is assigned a Postcode in wrong town

@AyToZed  For over 20 years I’ve been a Plusnet customer allocated a fixed IP address.

For info : every different location check I’ve tried shows me in a different location, nowhere near where I live…….

Re: IP address is assigned a Postcode in wrong town

Thanks for the replies.

https://nordvpn.com/ip-lookup/  puts me in Newport NP20, which is different again - that's 4 different locations including my real one.

No idea about my 'legacy' status

This seems all over the place and impossible to configure on Chrome, which seems to ignore my account's address.

Anyway thatnks for the help, it appears to be uncontrollable behaviour.
