Greenby domain migration - Hostopia credentials?

I'm staying with PlusNet broadband but am currently going through the process of moving email and webspace (standard and CGI) away to Greenby (on a temporary basis, while I sort out the direction I want to go). I've had the email saying that my migration has happened, and I can now login to the Greenby site using my PlusNet credentials, which seems to work.

I understand that my emails (and all mailboxes) are free for two years so this query is about the webspace situation. I have two domains which are registered with a third party and have been pointing to the PlusNet nameservers (e.g. ns1.force9.net).

I've now had an email saying I need to point to the Greenby nameservers (e.g. ns1.greenbysites.com) which I've now done and it seems to work OK. I assume the webspace is currently on both hosts at the moment as I can use the force9 and Greenby nameservers and they both work.

I've also received a second email titled 'Hostopia Website migration' saying I need to migrate my two 'custom domains' or else they will go away on 8th November unless I sign up for a Greenby Nano package at £4.80 a month.

I queried this with Greenby and was sent the following reply.

"The free 2 years have been provided for the current Email services and the web hosting for myusername.plus.com which does not include any custom domains.

If you wish to host any of your custom domains on our servers, you need to purchase our Nano hosting package. More details on https://greenby.com/hostopia-migration

By custom domains, we mean domains that are registered outside of PlusNet/Greenby. As both mywebsite.org.uk and mywebsite.co.uk are registered with a third-party registrar, they are considered custom domains, even though they currently point to the Greenby nameservers.

Your existing Plusnet webspace is included with the two-year free service, but hosting these custom domains on Greenby's servers requires the Nano hosting package at £4.80 per month.

The good news is that you would not need to purchase a separate package for each domain. Both websites can be hosted under the same Nano hosting package, subject to the package's available resources.

Therefore, to ensure both websites continue to be hosted by Greenby after the Hostopia service is removed on 8 November 2026, you would need to arrange the Nano hosting package and migrate the websites to it."

I was under the impression that all website capability would continue after migration, free for two years but apparently not. Anyway I don't intend it to be a long-term solution, I just need an intermediate host until I sort out where I want to end up.

I went on the Hostopia migration link above to start the migration and it wants my Hostopia Username and Password.

I didn't knowingly have a Hostopia username/password so have no idea what they should be. My usual PlusNet credentials don't work.

Does anyone know what Hostopia credentials I should be using?

When I asked Greenby I was told "try getting in touch with PlusNet and they will help you with the Hostopia username."

No luck so far so would appreciate any thoughts from anyone who has been through this.

Thank you

Andy

Re: Greenby domain migration - Hostopia credentials?

I've had no help from Greenby regarding my domain. They kept mentioning Hostopia who I've never heard of.

Today I tried to transfer my domain only for things to go pear shaed as Plusnet is still shoing my domain is registed and hosted by Plusnet, but apparently it was transfered to Greenby end of last month.

My new domain host's email regarding migration went to Plusnet, not Greenby. Plusnet's IT departement have spent a couple of hours trying to work out what's going on and have just informed me that my domain is now with Greenby, even though my Plusnet account says otherwise etc.

Now waiting for Greenbty to come back to me!

Hi @AndyBB

As far as I remember, the hostopia login (ftp) would be something like: ccgi.username.force9.co.uk (as username) or ccgi.username.plus.com (likewise), did you have something like this set up at any stage?

If so you might be able to rescue the related password from your ftp program.

Very dim recall that there was a ccgi login [equivalent to hostopia somehow] on the (PN) portal somewhere - it's all a very long time ago but someone here might recall the address for that, or failing that, @bobpullen or @plusnettony might be able to advise what your hostopia credentials should be.

Re: Greenby domain migration - Hostopia credentials?

Thanks both.

I did have ccgi.username.plus.com set up in PlusNet to access my CGI/PHP area (I assumed that was all it is for rather than standard webspace) but assumed that was just for CGI/PHP use - I'll try it later.

As far as I can tell Hostopia were/are hosting webspace on behalf of PlusNet but I've never had to deal with them previously.

I can never get through to PlusNet support directly via email/chat/ticket - I'm not sure of the best way to have a meaningful discussion so it's a bit frustrating!

Thanks again

Re: Greenby domain migration - Hostopia credentials?

Thankfully Plusnet IT got back to me via text message.

It's taken over two hours for any type of response from Greenby. Hopefully things will be sorted soon. Looks like I've portentially dodged a bullet

Re: Greenby domain migration - Hostopia credentials?

@AndyBB - if you drop me a private message with a brief description of your woes then I can probably help get you back into the Hostopia Control Panel / FTP space.
