Re: Frontpage access disabled 28/08

yes but the screenshot is of the previous website uploaded to Frontpage server.  I tried to put a version on the home page server but despite it saying it was uploaded, only the frontpage server version is there.  The one I want to have on the homepage server should have a last modified date of 20th Sept written at bottom right hand corner of each website page.

Re: Frontpage access disabled 28/08

You appear to have two index pages (index.htm and index.html)
index.html is a frameset which includes http://fp.bourtonvale.plus.com as it's source.
Your options as i see it are
1. Delete index.html which will make index.htm the default page.
2. Edit index.html replacing http://fp.bourtonvale.plus.com with index.htm

Derek, you really need to look at moving your sites away from FrontPage. Less and less hosting companies are offering support for FrontPage extensions and this is a situation that's going to worsen and not get better.
The decommissioning of our FrontPage service is being discussed over on Think Broadband too where it's already been identified that Purple Cloud, 1 and 1 and Surpass have all ceased providing FrontPage support. I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg too.
I'm sure there are hosts out there that still offer support for FrontPage server extensions however you have to ask yourself exactly how long they can continue to do this before it becomes impractical.

I would hope (probably naively) that they would continue to offer it for as long as their customers wanted it - being in a service industry and all....!!
I am genuinely sorry to leave Plusnet, but it appears I have no choice. I'm currently looking at other ISPs as suggested.

Re: Frontpage access disabled 28/08

So you'd be happy for Plusnet to continue running your FP site while every couple of weeks hackers replace it with pornographic images and/or links to high unsavoury sites? Because that is what happens when servers are insecure. Plusnet have become aware of a vulnerability that can't be fixed (maybe a FP site was compromised) and they have taken appropriate action.

Re: Frontpage access disabled 28/08

Well, one would assume that this "vulnerability" has been there all along, and the site has been running quite happily for many years with no "links to unsavoury sites" making an appearance thus far.
I think the scenario you suggest is probably somewhat unlikely.
However, I've found another ISP now that has no plans to end FP support, so the site will be moved and Plusnet simply lose themselves business..........

Hardly a very sound argument in an ever changing world but the choice is yours.

Using that argument Microsoft wouldn't bother releasing monthly updates to XP, Vista etc to fix vulnerabilities newly discovered.
Obviously all vulnerabilities will have been there all the time and it's only when the hacking community gets to know about them that they are a problem.
You could try sending a polite email to all the hackers asking them on scouts honour to only exploit already known vulnerabilities and ignore any newly discovered ones.

The vulnerability could have arisen as a result of M$ putting a patch on some bad code, well anywhere!!!

Re: Frontpage access disabled 28/08

OK.... from reading around, it seems possible that it's only the contact form part of my site that will not work.
Can someone (Bob?) check out www.quarrymans-arms.co.uk and confirm if having the contact form re-written in PHP would mean that I can leave the hosting with Plusnet.
My friend gets very confused with IT stuff and really doesn't want to have another "Internet related" account to deal with.

Re: Frontpage access disabled 28/08

Looking over your site I can't see a contact form? There is a contact page with your email address and phone number in plain text on it and all the pages are static html so it should be easy to transfer over to the Homepages servers.
