Re: Fibre in listed building?

Hmmm ... so it occurred to me to check the other two properties here with the Openreach address checker, and they both say "ONT exists with active service".

So does that mean they both already have a FTTP service? (despite there not being a "grey box" on the outside of the building)

Re: Fibre in listed building?

It does, @paulh . I'm guessing they have an internal CSP. Gives you more ammunition.

Re: Fibre in listed building?

@paulh, you must have a wire already attached to the building. The previous post from the seach mentioned that the existing cable can be removed and replaced with the fibre, like for like. And as you say, others already have fibre in the same block. As @jab1 stated, they must have an internal CSP

Re: Fibre in listed building?

@paulh

As stated the fact that other properties already have Full Fibre should make any permissions required straight forward.

Attached is an image of Connectorized Block Terminals (BCT) which will be at the top of the pole serving your property. The fibre optic cable is plugged into this before being run to the property.

Also attached is a picture on an internet Customer Splice Point (CSP) - there may be other variations of this.

As mentioned, if you're willing to take a gamble and use the existing copper cable entry point for the incoming fibre then no new work would be required. OR would simple remove the old cable and replace it with the new. Ask them to remove the copper cable back to the pole (it's a listed building after all!!).

The gamble is if the installation fails for any reason you're left without an internet service until it's fixed.

Another thought.

Speak to your neighbours and see what they say about the order and install process.

Re: Fibre in listed building?

haha, the other folk are a bit unpredictable in their comings and goings otherwise I'd already have done so.

but, whatever, things are looking a lot more reassuring.

I really appreciate the help from everyone who has chimed in with knowledgeable replies. If only this kind of support was available from the horse's mouth Wink

I'll bang in an upgrade order and cross my fingers.

(there's literally an Openreach depot 200 metres away, I bet it still takes them 6 weeks  to do this lol)

@paulh

Do let us know how it goes, especially the order / survey process. It could help others in Listed buildings.
