- Contacting Greenby re registering Domain

I recently went to Full Fibre and it is very fast and stable... Being a long term PlusNet person I am lucky enough to have a static IP and domain so I thought I would use my much improved upload speeds to host a website (it will be low volume).
I changed the domain setting from my PlusNet webspace which has been working fine (but very small space) to point at may static IP address. I waited for a number of days but the domain checkers show it as not being associated with an IP address at all (previously it was a PlusNet common webspace I suppose). I rang the helpful Support Team but I could tell it was a bit beyond the initial person who had to keep going to ask the supervisor. In the end they said that as PlusNet were transferring this side of the business to Greenby I might be better talking to them or transferring to another company that deals with domains.
Problem is that I cannot contact Greenby and have not been notified of migration yet so a bit of a Catch-22. Anyone have a suggestion?
This is what Greenby says on their site:
How do I contact Greenby
Please note that we cannot disucss your account with you, and we don't have access to any of your account information until your migration has completed. Meanwhile you can use the live chat on Greenby.com after going to the 'Help & Support' section. If you would like to call us, let the agent know and we can arrange a call, however you should ensure your migration has been completed first and you have received your Greenby welcome email. Until this time please continue to contact Plusnet for information and support.
Fixed! Go to the fix.

Domains have not been transferred to Greenby. People with domains and webspace will be the very last on the list to be moved over to Greenby (probably sometime next year I would imagine).
As to your problem, I'm not too sure what you were trying to achieve by changing the IP? Please elaborate more about this.

Sorry for delay...
I changed the domain to point to my static IP address so I can run a web server from my home.
With the increased upload speed since getting full fibre I think it should be plenty fast enough for the limited traffic I anticipate.

OK, understood the why. It should be possible to do that but there could be lots of different reasons why it's not working.
First check the setup in the PlusNet domain configuration. Presumably you selected the 'Other' option under the 'Domain Hosting Settings' but what did you put for the additional DNS records?
Sorry if this is sounding a bit condescending to you, I'm just making sure all is correctly set up.

Not condescending at all because initially I had not unchecked the box that says I wanted the domain to point to my webspace!
Once I did that the DNS checker started to show red crosses which I assumed meant that the DNS servers were not finding an IP address linked to my domain...
Anyway the details are as shown in attached screenshot.

Ah! the left field should be just the subdomain , the domain name is automatically appended to the left field
So to point www.<yourdomain> just use www in the left field
To point the 'naked' domain you normally would use @ in the left field but the Plusnet DNS control panel doesnt allow it.
So to point the naked domain add a '.' at the end , this prevents the automatic appending of the domain to the left field

So I have done what I think was suggested but the DNS check a few hours later is showing all X's for the "naked" domain name and a shared PlusNet IP for the www. prefixed one.

The www one is now correct but the naked domain needs to be the full domain name with an extra '.' on the end
I can't recall what the standard ttl value is but the DNS update may well still be propagating.

Watching the IP address for the www. domain name change round the world is fascinating using dnschecker.org!
Strangely Australia was an early change and all US before UK...
I have removed the single . entry and added full domain name with a "." at the end.
So far dnschecker is all red crosses but perhaps it will get picked up later.
Thanks MisterW - I guess the W stands for Wonderful!

Thanks MisterW
No problem, it looks like the DNS change for the naked domain has fully propagated now.
