CCGI webspace DNS AWOL after password change

Hi,

Plusnet support advise a post here, our CCGI hosted space is down as the DNS has disappeared probably after a password change. Plusnet have been looking at it all week to no avail, but a new search here leads me to

https://community.plus.net/t5/Everything-else/ccgi-webspace/m-p/1916471

Unfortunately they aren't sure which bit of Plusnet is the correct team to flag this to so suggested a post here!

@bobpullen  any chance of working your magic? Username as per forum name.

Thanks

Re: CCGI webspace DNS AWOL after password change

This looks odd. From what I can establish everythign should be OK. Steps were taken back on 07/11 that I would have expected to fix things (I can see it hasn't though).

I have taken some further action, but if there's still no change by this time tomorrow then it won't have worked.

Let me know either way...

Re: CCGI webspace DNS AWOL after password change

No such luck, still nothing showing on DNS.
Is there any way to use a sub domain on the hosted domain as a work around, or would that have the same issue?
Also is there any way that we could get access to get a copy of the database since the database server is clearly firewalled to just talk to the web server. As always on these occasions the last couple of backups didn't complete properly :-( so would save recreating the missing data if we can get at it.

Re: CCGI webspace DNS AWOL after password change

Still nothing on the DNS

BUT

I have realised a method for extracting data from the database, I'll note it here in case anyone finds this thread in future.

The hosting.plus.net/portal has a preview of your site when you click on websites top left. This will run an index.php in public, so if you put a temporary index.php that emails you the relevant bits of your database, then you can recover some data whilst the site is still down. Just the caching of the preview results in a dose of logging in and out...

Re: CCGI webspace DNS AWOL after password change

Fix

@sandwithbells - another option might be to create a hosts file entry on your machine as below:-

91.136.8.9 ccgi.<your_username>.plus.com

That may then allow you to view your site again.

FTP to the server space and upload adminer to a public directory somewhere. Browse to the adminer PHP file and you should be presented with a login prompt that will allow you access to your database.

From there, it can be exported/backed up in a number of formats. There is a phpMyAdmin function in the Hosting Control Panel however it tends to be temperamental at best. I find adminer to be much less hassle.

In the meantime, I'll see if I can get somebody looking at the DNS issue.

Re: CCGI webspace DNS AWOL after password change

Thanks Bob

the setting the IP locally in hosts was the bit I was missing, obvious with hindsight, I've got adminer already but had no way to get at it to run!
