A record for domain without www.

Hello,
I've set up an A record with the left field as "www", but what should I put in the left field to set the A record for when there is no www prefix, I've tried "@" and "." and empty, none have worked.

Re: A record for domain without www.

Type the domain with a qualifying dot at the end, e.g:
domain.tld.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me piggy-backing on this - but my problem is somewhat related.  I want my domain name to point to my static ip - so I suspect all I have to do for the domain hosting settings is:
1.  Make sure I have the option set for "I wish to specify DNS records for hosts under this domain"
2. Configure an additional DNS record as:
stonetheft.co.uk. a     99.99.192.99

This should make all requests point to my static ip and then cascade down to my website published in IIS as stonetheft.co.uk
Is this right?
Cheers

Posting your IP address on a public forum is not a good idea!

Re: A record for domain without www.

I've changed it - but figured it wouldn't matter as anyone can do an "nslookup" and find out.

Only if they know your username - nobody should have their forum name the same as their Plusnet username.
You can change your forum user name here: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=32957;sa=account
NB That link will only work for this user - for anyone else go to PROFILE, Account Related Settings

Yep, that's right. If you want www requests to point to your web server then you'll also want to set up a CNAME record as follows:
www                CNAME                 stonetheft.co.uk.
