can't send emails - "too many recipients for last hour"

This has started since yesterday for all *.plus.com and domain outgoing emails.

This is NOT over-use.

- no multiple recipients

- sending from home fibre

Yesterday I sent fewer than 5 emails from my plusnet mailboxes. Has not cleared overnight.

 

I tried the Plusnet text HELP, but it is moronic - it tries to identify my account from my mobile number ( I'm with another mobile provider) - then it asks me to text FAULT  <TELEPHONE NUMBER> (I'm on full fibre and I transferred the number to a 3rd party VOIP provider) and fails, before telling me to text ADV.

 

How do I get online real Plusnet help for email? No email to send to - no ticket system, just this broken text nonsense that assumes I must be reporting aline fault or something.

I have the same oroblem. Started about 11.30 am on 14 September 2025. I'm not sending to multiple recipients. It happens with Plusnet Webmail and my usual client mailer (OE Classic). This is the second problem with Plusnet email in the last few days. The last issue was to do with SSL. Over the 16 years I've used Plusnet for email it has generally been extremely reliable.

@jab1  Thanks. I eventually found the thread - which had been hidden away under the cryptic title "SMTP error 452" where no-one can find it.

What I see in Thunderbird desktop is this

can't send from Plusnet.png

 

no mention of the SMTP error code, so the title is super-unhelpful.

MODERATOR

Please consider changing the thread to "SMTP error 452 - too many recipients in last hour" or something both widely explanatory and technically precise?

 

Also - if this relates to maintenance - why no service announcement?

Also - is this only affecting 'high-touch' customers, or a random subset of everyone?

First question - this not 'maintenance' as such, it is connected to the transfer of the email service to Greenby, and has obvioudly caught out Plusnet. 

Second question - it affects all Plusnet customers.

Hopefully, it is being urgently reviewed.

(can't see your screenshot - due to the 'Online Harms Act).

I first had this issue last night. when sending from my usrname@account.plus.com address.

The problem then cleared, but the same issue returned this morning.

This was the error message.

 

Sent:    14/09/2025 11:48

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

      'xxxxxxxxx@googlemail.com' on 14/09/2025 11:48

            Server error: '452 <xxxxxxxxx@googlemail.com> recipient rejected - too many recipients in last hour'

 

I have only been sending handful of emails, each one to only one or two recipients.

No multiple recipient emails.

I am not off network and I am connected via my home Plusnet router..

Can @Townman or any other well informed PN superusers/friends please summarise the latest state of play for me?

With the best will in the world, one wonders how much worse the Plunset email service can get in the run-up to migration.

It's a mess.

@disfroot That TB message is rather unhelpful, I must admit, but that is TB's fault, not PN'S.

Having the same problem started yesterday for both my email accounts when sending messages.

Connected through Plusnet and only two emails sent Huh
