Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

"I tried to log on to Green by just in case it has been migrated, but they don't recognise my email address."

Try logging in using a browser in "private " mode, this worked for me.

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

Hi Tony @plusnettony

Well, I have seen an interesting problem.

I have now moved to EE for BB & Home Phone and as far as I am aware my email PN addresses have fully migrated to Greenby a goodly few weeks (months?) ago.

My PN account was out of contract and when I log in to the PN portal I am informed that 'If you have got a Plusnet email address linked to your account this will no longer work'

Note my official switch to EE was the 11th June.

This evening when sending from my PN addresses I get this error message:-

"Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The connection to the server was interrupted"

Of note that when I log in to Greenby and use their webmail function to send it works.

So, firstly has there been a global issue on the PN email server i.e. are others seeing what I have seen?

And secondly, have I indeed been fully migrated to Greenby or not i.e. is the error I am seeing due to my PN account now being closed?   FWIW I have been sending & receiving for some while now on those email addresses so I not unreasonably assumed that I was fully on the Greenby platform.

In summary, is what I am seeing a temporary glitch................if so fine but if there is an underlaying issue around the PN to Greenby migration, please let me know.

FWIW I do have in place alternative email arrangements but not all my contacts have been informed yet as I have been doing so progressively.

@Routefinder  change your outgoings server to relay.force9.net

It's a known (temporary) problem with closed Plusnet accounts

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

On my PC yes, I use Outlook 2024 (part of my Office 2024)

But my test of the change you advised was on my mobile phone where I use Blue Mail......with all the previously advised and working settings as Outlook. It fails on the Outgoing only.

Edit ~ POP3 is ok as the PN Community forum updates come through fine

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

what credentials are you using for the outgoing server ? if not already , then use the same as the incoming

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

That shows the outgoing server as relay.plus.net

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

Yes, I know.....as mentioned above I did try relay.force9.net but the Bluemail 'test' of the outgoing step failed so i backed out and it reverted to its original as you see in the screenshot.

This is what I see with the Force9 entry or indeed the PN relay entry

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

@Routefinder

relay.plus.net will not work when the Plusnet account has been closed, since its routed directly to the Plusnet server and will check credentials against a Plusnet account (which now doesnt exist!)

relay.force9.net is routed via the Greenby proxy, so for a migrated account , it will check against the credentials held on the Greenby system.

Sinec the incoming mail.plus.net IS routed via the Greenby proxy, If the creds work for incoming , then those exact same creds should work for outgoing using relay.force9.net

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

I am fully migrated to Greenby.
Several mailboxes. All send via relay.plus.net.
I was informed there was no need to change existing server settings.
Using port 465 SSL/TLS, signed in using mailbox username and password.

That's absolutely correct, that should be the case. Currently it still is, as long as you still have a Plusnet account!

Eventually once relay.plus.net has been moved to the Greenby proxy then that will then be the case irrespective of whether a Plusnet account still exists.

Re: Update on Plusnet email migration to Greenby

@MisterW Your insight and knowledge is much appreciated but why the heck hasn't (unless I missed it somewhere?) Plusnet published all this on their own site or indeed also on the Greenby site???

Having said that, as mentioned, when I tried the Force9 setting Bluemail could not authenticate the connection. So what can I try next in the absence of specific help from neither PN nor Greenby???

At this time, at least the POP3 receiving is still functional.
