Re: Servers slow today ?

Not noticed any significant issue with PC based clients, but both Standard and Basic Webmail are diabolical!

Webmail not working

Webmail - only very intermittently able to get emails

Inbox message list fails with fetch error or failed to send select or connection closed

Folders only intermittently showing

Logged a call - seems to work a bit better with no sort order selected - but then, won't page through list to see new emails (appears no sort = oldest first)

Been like this for a couple of days

Re: Servers slow today ?

I'm still noticing it on anything using IMAP especially K9 on Android

Re: Servers slow today ?

FWIW, I use k9 on Android and haven't noticed any slow down today.

Similarly, using "mutt" on a Raspberry PI to read my IMAP email is as fast as usual. I even deleted my local cache, and logging in and getting all the headers was only a couple of seconds, looking at the logs:

I don't have many emails, nor are they particularly large, but it seems responsive.

Re: Servers slow today ?

@seebee  in that case I'm going to have to do some more digging...

Re: Servers slow today ?

Seems like it MIGHT be IP dependent.

Tried with the VPN up to the office and it's much faster.

Back to my static in the 80.229.... range and its like treacle...

Re: Servers slow today ?

That might suggest the issue is internal / external IP addresses ... or some routing!

Webmail (so nothing to do with my static IP address) is dreadfully slow.  On my PN connection, iPhone is very sluggish, whilst Outlook 2016 (with a lots of email boxes) just grinds through the list with no apparent issue.

A family member (mailbox on my account) reports significant issues accessing their email using Outlook on an android phone over both BT internet and O2 mobile.

Re: Servers slow today ?

Could well be IP. I am on a dynamic address, currently 51.9.x.y

(I generally find webmail to be very slow, but IMAP okay)

Re: Servers slow today ?

Yup, not just slow but erroneous.

Running iOS Mail/imap. Getting annoying PN usage warnings but unable to delete emails: attempted 3 times but all are back on my device within an hour.

Webmail no longer shows my imap Inbox but another with latest item in 2019.

It appears that, while my device shows the deletions, the correct Inbox is missing* from webmail.

*At this rate PN will withdraw my email service having (deliberately?) withdrawn my ability to manage the system. Or has PN cancelled me already (I think not as email is still incoming).

Edit: getting this trying to access webmail inbox - "Error: Webmail shut down by signal" or similar but message doesn't stay up long enough to copy!

Re: Servers slow today ?

Townman, can an imap PC client delete emails from the PN webmail server at the moment?

Re: Servers slow today ?

There is no such thing as a webmail server from an email perspective. The “webmail server” is a http website server running the browser based webmail client, which uses IMAP to connect to the email server - the same one used by PC / Phone / Tablet based email clients. If a PC client can interact with the server, it will delete the email from the server.

As for the webmail client showing old emails, that will be a matter of the client only completing part of the mailbox IMAP content query.

Looks as though there is an operational issue on the mail servers. I’ve sent a couple of PMs but have not yet had a response.

Re: Servers slow today ?

TM, I know how email works.

My question remains: can your PC delete emails from the server (file) but not the non PC devices?

Re: Servers slow today ?

Accessing the webmail server file is problematic, am getting a FETCH error in Webmail (and only the, now correct, Inbox folder) which might explain why deleting (just 3 as a test) emails gives a "failed to move" error on my device. "Server Error: Failed to send FETCH command"

That didn't last long, Now getting the courier shutdown signal error again.
