Re: SMTP Error (535): Authentication Failed

@TonyParker that matchs @-Simon- 's experience ... and I suspect matches my theory which I have escalated.

If you have an IMAP client configured on a local device, it should all work fine.

@colbee

Works with a local client, fails with webmail?

Re: SMTP Error (535): Authentication Failed

I have the same problem - just tried to send an email. I can login to Webmail just fine, but sending emails raises the SMTP authentication error.

Edit: this is using a plus.com address.

Re: SMTP Error (535): Authentication Failed

Just to let you know... I am unable to login onto the Plusnet portal also. I am an email customer only and I think It only allows broadband customers on that. I used to log in on the MADASAFISH portal and it seems that this is still active. However, ther is no reporting funcationality

Reporting email issues

Can EVERYONE reporting "me too" issues please provide the following information...

  • Email brand - Plusnet / Force9 / Free-inline / ic24 ... etc
  • The email client being used
  • How authentication (if any) is being done with the SMTP server - email address or account name
  • Mail box type - Default or Primary

Force9 and webmail I am presently gathering diagnostics from my own tests so more Force9 and webmail posts are not necessary.

Re: SMTP Error (535): Authentication Failed

I've just checked again and things are the same for me too.

  1. IC24
  2. Plusnet Webmail fails, Outlook and Android mail now send fine.
  3. I don't think that I can control authentication on Plusnet Webmail.
  4. Not relevant

In general, you can in the same way you do for any other login - use the email address or the account name ... though for ic24 IIRC email address is the required credentials ... other brands will accept either.

@plusnettony - is there any update on the ic24 issues please?

Raised and being investigated. From memory, a solution was found. I'm not on the office though, and no access to email to check. Nudge me tomorrow if I don't post back.

Re: SMTP Error (535): Authentication Failed

I am and IC24 user, and I have the same (535) error occurring.
I've not been able to send emails since last week (but receive emails ok)

This started the evening prior to the outage they had on Wednesday last week (17th Sep)

I spoke with PN Customer Services (Shauna - who was brilliant, really informative and helpful)
She told me about the PN 'global' webmail outage, and that she thought the send issue was lnked to that.

It seems its not, as I have been patient, and waited, but cannot send any email (not even to my self at IC24)

Can anyone advise, as having to cut/paste/manage issue using alternate email address, but its not ideal!!

Many Thanks, Robbie
