Problems with metronet.co.uk email

Hi,

My father is on a metronet.co.uk email address that is owned by plus net.

Trying to send email to him, and I get the error message:

mailbox is full: retry timeout exceeded

So what it looks like is that the machine

inmx01.plus.net ([84.93.238.135])

Has a hard disk that has filled up.

Can someone at plus.net dig into this?

Thanks,

David.

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

@summers

More likely is that his individual mailbox is up to the allowed 100MB limit.

Are all old emails deleted and the deleted items folder regularly emptied?

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

Yes, my father empties the whole email box regularly. Probably no more than 10 emails in in. And email to him was only 5k or so. So his email box was well bellow 100MB limit - so the problem must be elsewhere.

All I can think of is that the machine with the mail box on it has a full disk.

Can a plus.net staff check please?

Thanks,

David.

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

Bit more digging, and

inmx01

may just be an email router - the mx record resolves to:

Name:    mx-trial.core.plus.net
Name:    mx-trial.last.plus.net
Address: 212.159.9.200
Name:    mx-trial.core.plus.net
Name:    mx-trial.last.plus.net
Address: 212.159.8.200

He empties the inbox … what about the sent items folder … and the deleted items folder?

Yes fairly sure empties sent and deleted. But I'll check with him.

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

Hiya @summers, thanks for getting in touch. I am sorry for the issues you are having sending mail to your Father.

It does sound like his storage limit has been reached. If he's sure the mail is clear just pop us over a PM (to send a PM, click on my name and then to the right, there will be a grey button to 'send private message' and in the message please include a link to this thread) with the username and we can have a check, though wouldn't really be able to confirm any information to yourself.

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

@LaurenB PM sent - with what I believe to be his plus.net username. metronet name is different - but guess you need the plus.net one.

Yes understand you can't give details to me, hopefully you have my fathers phone number? If not let me know and I'll PM it over.

If its the metronet mailbox which is the concern here, support will need that account name.

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

Father got tired of the email not working - so he has changed provider. Not a great solution, but a solution which means he can do email again. Sigh.

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

OK - Am up at my fathers.

His Inbox has 23.9MB of data in in. All other folders are close to empty, so total size is the 23.9MB.

So that doesn't seem to be the problem. He still gets errors about Exceeding mail quota.

Does the metronet service have a cpanel or anything like that, that I can at least browse exactly what files he has on the metronet server, rather than just looking remotely through a MUA?

Re: Problems with metronet.co.uk email

So no plus.net staff have replied in a week. Can we please have an official statement from plus.net on the rumours that it is closing down the metronet email service? Please don't do this with no statement. You need to make things like this public.

Hey @summers

Are you also unable to access the Metronet account via Plusnet Webmail?
