Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Which might work OK until you hit a service which strictly enforces DKIM and SPF validation.

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

so i am also unable to send mails, since the 17th now. i also had a load of mails which sais unknown sender, all had attachmants (which i did not open) in all about 7k+ which i had to delete manually. i just got off with a plusnet rep who told me i just have to wait till its resolved. i also did a viruscan but got no result. would it be the large number of mails which caused the blacklist?

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

It is looking that way for the moment.  It would seem that there are a number of bad actors specifically impacting (targeting ?) the Plusnet service at present.

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Hi Townman,

Do I take this to mean that there is nothing we can do for the moment, until there is some clarification?

cheers

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

@Pancho4

There are a mixture of issues and experiences for users individually and across the brands.  That’s why the details of brand and connection methods are important in the discussion.

Plus.com users encountering blacklist reports probably have had their domain reputations marred by the spammers abusing email addresses exposed in a multitude of third party data breaches.  See https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Those black listings should clear after 48 hours depending on which black list is involved.  Look up your domain using MXTOOLBOX - it will advise which black list a domain using on and the clear policy.

@James_B  can you add more?

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Good morning @Townman ,

Mercifully, my email system is working fine at the moment.

My problem with Error 462 has gone away, as has (( think - fingers crossed - the Gmail issue.)

However, after reading your reply to @Pandho4 , I ran MXTOOLBOX and first checked 'plus.com'

The result (see screenshot attached) reported 5 'errors' and four 'warnings'.

When I ran a check on @account.plus.com, the list of errors and warnings was a subset of the 'plus.com' list but missing items 5,6,7 and 8 from that first list.

On the face of it, nine errors and warnings seems a lot, but I have no way of judging their significance. What do you think?

I'm guessing you may  have run MXTOOLBOX yours self on the plus.com domain. If so, are my results familiar?

To an expoert, is it surprising i have 9 errors and warnings byut my email systsem seems ot be running nbetter than it has in quite a long time?

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Hi Peter,

In context most of those errors are not real errors and have no significance.

plus.com is not email addressable space and therefore there is no MX nor SPF for it.  DMARC alignment is relaxed and there is no specific SENDER mandated policy for DMARC validation failures.

Similar will be seen in respect of your domain in respect of DKIM and DMARC as they are taken from plus, com - there will be a SPF definition for your domain.

MXTOOLBOX does get into a panic about stuff which does not really matter - what you need to look at is the blacklisting state - see Email Blacklist Check - IP Blacklist Check - See if your server is blacklisted

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Thanks a lot,  @Townman .

Just what I was hoping you would tell me !

Blacklist check is all clear.

What feedback to you have (from customers and PN staffers) on the Gmail problem?

I:m testing daily and haven't had a problem for some weeks now, but I'm still not sure if I trust it.

Is it still on a 'pending' list somewhere or is is quietly marked as 'resolved'?

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Totalise.co.uk  email address won't send any more, apparently on a Spamhaus ZEN blacklist. Any chance it can be removed from that blacklist?

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Still can't send email from my account.

MxToolBox stilling showing my IPaddress is in the Spamhaus policy blacklist but don't see how that can be the problem as another email address on the same account sends successfully.

HaveIbeenpwned does have both my email and the second email address on it so don't see how that could be the problem.

Is there something else I should be doing or am I waiting for developments are your end?

Dave

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

On havebeenpwned.com I am shown as 19 breeches, but none shown in MXTOOLBOX.

My problem remains that I can access the force9 mailboxes OK in webmail, so the logon credentials are valid, but using the mailbox settings in Outlook 365 (windows11) and in applemail (ipads)  I seem to be unable to logon to these mail clients to send or receive.

Earlier messages that the address was blacklisted have disappeared but outlook is now questioning/rejecting the plusnet mailbox certificate.

cheers

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

Check that the server names are correct.  Which version of “outlook” the good paid for one or the free one?  The free one is a pig to configure - it perpetuates changing the setts to what it thinks they should be.

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

The working email address and the failing both use the same ones

Re: Plusnet emails refusing to send.

It’s the fully updated paid for version of outlook. In the past both versions of the server addresses both Plusnet and Force9 have worked for me in outlook - but not now I’m afraid.
