PlusNet email just landed saying my plus.com email service is being transferred to Greenby. It gives me a new email address.
Is this transfer the reason for glitches so many have been reporting?

@redsox9 The 'it gave me a new email address' bit is interesting. To the best of my knowledge - and been following the twists and turns on this subject ever since it was announced, the idea of this change is that Greenby will be hosting the exact same set up as you have now.

Ah, understand. For some reason I can't fathom - yet - your email address on that notification is assumed to be 'username@usename.plus.com'. Totally incorrect, of course. Who ever is originating the template the BT mass mailer uses to send these messages out on has made cringe-worthy mistake, and not the only one, but that is another story.

Interesting, @redsox9 , but thinking back to something I read on another topic in relation to this, apparently the 'postmaster@youusername' has been rechristened 'yourusername@yourusername' , which could explain this weirdness.

@jab1 isnt that the standard default address for a plus.com account ?

I thought it was the 'postmaster' mailbox that got renamed, @MisterW - to my knowledge, I have never had ******3@******3 as mailbox previously. I know it is around 12 since I created my PN inboxes, but I am certain I never saw a message addressed to 'myusername@myusername' . In the very early days I think there may have been the odd one or two addressed to 'postmaster', but I am certain my 'default address was 'j.xxxxxxnd@m******x.plus.com

Sorry, yes that's what I meant but that will mean that any comms from PLusnet to 'postmaster'@ will now be sent to <account>@

When I first joined Plusnet, the postmaster address was a second mailbox created by Plusnet, not me. It was only ever used by them for billing advice, contract renewals etc. So the change makes sense.

IIRC there were various practices around the name of the default email box which can be changed by the user. I think they were as follows…
- postmaster
- chosen name
- account name
Remember that the catchall is optional - the current recommendation is that it is switched off. If used, it can be to ANY mailbox.
Again IIRC it used to be on by default, set to the default mailbox.
It would not be wise to assume that account@ and postmaster@ are synonymous.
Again IIRC it was a T&Cs requirement that there was a postmaster@ email address and there was an obligation to monitor it.
Through various iterations I have changed the name of the default email address on my account …
- postmaster
- admin
- account name
I suspect that the email comms is using the current default email address convention irrespective of it existing / catchall being active.
@plusnettony - can this be reviewed please.

@Townman I suspect you are correct, based on my experience with the second comms I received on the subject (now lost, due to the change), but my contact address on my account (email only) is the specified icloud one, not some variation of my PN address.

Indeed, contact address is something separate, not related to the entity subject to migration. I would argue that BOTH should be notified and I would go further to suggest that ALL addresses on an account should be notified particularly where there is a necessity to change authentication details.

Comms to mailboxes is on my list.
Back in the day, we used to get complaints of duplicated emails because we sent it to the contact address of un/postmaster@username.plus.com and their contact address which was often the same thing.
