POP settings

Hi all.  Could someone confirm the POP settings for Globalnet since migrating to Greenby.  Webmail on my iPad and iPhone have stopped receiving and sending.  Thank you.

Re: POP settings

@leopard99

As nobody has answered your question, I asked Grok A.I.  What it replied with is shown below, I can't confirm whether it is correct, but at least it gives you something to try in an attempt to get back to a working situation,  and I'm sure that somebody will criticise this answer if it is wrong -

For a Globalnet email account (e.g. @globalnet.co.uk) after the Plusnet → Greenby migration, use these POP settings:

Official Greenby settings (from their knowledgebase)

Greenby states that migration does not require changes to existing settings, and provides these for new setups or lost settings:

  • Incoming (POP3) server: mail.globalnet.co.uk (or imap.globalnet.co.uk — they are interchangeable; the port determines the protocol)
  • POP3 port: 110
  • SSL/TLS / Secure connection: Disabled (Greenby explicitly says turn SSL/TLS off)
  • Outgoing (SMTP) server: smtpmail.globalnet.co.uk
  • SMTP port: 25
  • Username: Your full email address (e.g. [email protected]) — required for Globalnet and similar legacy brands
  • Password: Your existing mailbox password

Recommended practical settings (what many users find works better)

Greenby’s published ports are the unencrypted ones. Many clients and users prefer (and successfully use) encrypted ports where supported:

Incoming (POP3)

  • Server: mail.globalnet.co.uk
  • Port: 995
  • Encryption: SSL/TLS

Outgoing (SMTP)

  • Server: smtpmail.globalnet.co.uk (or try relay.plus.net / mail.enmail.co if needed)
  • Port: 587
  • Encryption: STARTTLS (or None if STARTTLS fails)
  • Authentication: Required (use the same full email address + password as incoming)

Key notes for Globalnet / Plusnet → Greenby

  • Username must be the full email address (not just the local part). This was already required pre-migration for Globalnet and similar brands.
  • Existing settings often continue to work after migration because the old hostnames are redirected.
  • If things stop working, log into the Greenby portal (greenby.com) to confirm the mailbox is active, reset the password if needed, and check anti-spam settings.
  • POP continues to be supported; you do not have to switch to IMAP.

If your client still fails to connect after trying both the official (port 110, no SSL) and encrypted (port 995) options, reset the mailbox password in the Greenby portal and try again, or contact Greenby support with your full email address.

Re: POP settings

AI has a very nasty habit of omitting critical details regarding Plusnet / Greenby, largely because it derives information from available sources can can not always split fact & fiction.

There are about 15 sets of email servers from the ex-Plusnet brands only 3 support SSL/TLS or STARTTLS.

The rest do not and fail if attempts are made to use POP3 / IMAP / SMTP with SSL/TLS enabled.

Re: POP settings

I appreciate you have taken the time to reply.

So, disregarding the AI reply, can anyone give me the Globalnet POP settings please?  I’ve fiddled around and now receive mail but can’t send. Thanks.
